Big bald beautiful 1,231
bought a pup from free ads 20 yrs ago that had ridgeback in its breeding, it was a nasty plodder. only good as a guard dog on a chain, too heavy for what i wanted. Quote Link to post
Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
All ridge crosses I have seen have been not very good temperment Quote Link to post
Aaron Proffitt 142
I know a couple guys that tried to use them ( full ridgebacks) as hog and bear dogs here and all reports came back saying they just didn't have the endurance of a straight hound like a plott or redbone. Based on that, it never would've entered my mind to cross them with a runner. Quote Link to post
Guest Leveller
Here's one I saw at a riding club camp a while back, I couldn't tell you anything about it other than it's a ridgeback cross Quote Link to post
Mixed Bag 603
cant see them bringing anything useful to the table Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
feck me thats an ugly b*****d, you would need a heavy chain to keep it on the ground in a strong wind..if it grows into its ears it will be 7 ft tall Quote Link to post
Ausnick 190
I run two ridgeback crosses, great endurance, heat tolerance, noses and they have high pain thresholds and no reverse gear. Mine will catch the odd hare in the day, retrieve rabbits, dispatch foxes and cats quickly, definitely don't care if they get bitten! I've had mine on feral dogs, foxes and big feral cats and are crazy good. They smash deer and other big things too. This was a purpose breeding unlike those shit ones you other people are talking about. The father was half ridgeback and the only reason I got rid of him was he was a hint too slow in the day but at night he was heaps fast enough. The bitch I own is 29 inches and 40kg and then the male was the runt of the litter that was born dead and was way smaller than the rest, he's 25-26 inches and 32kg, smashes everything but seems to just grab anywhere so I'm just gonna use him as a fox/cat dog paired up with my terrier. 2 Quote Link to post
