Bad news.....bad timing.....bad day!!!!

Recommended Posts

As some of you might remember, I put a post on here the season before last about my hob and his hopeless performances out in the field,,,,,in short, he wouldn't work, just refused. Anyway, over the course of last season I persevered with him and by the end of the season he was working like a demon, clearing warrens brilliantly, even dragging rabbits out of their sets by their heads, absolute class!

Anyway, I've been away for the last few weeks and got back last night. Driving back I was thinking about how much I'm looking forward to getting back out with the ferrets. This morning just before setting off to pick the ferrets up from my parents I get a phone call from my pa, he's just been to feed them and my hob is dead :cray: :cray: :cray:

Absolutely gutted!!! Checked him over and there doesn't seem to be anything obvious, could be old age as both of my ferrets are/were rescue.

So here I am, day before I'm kicking off my season and I'm down to just one ferret. I put an absolute shed load of work into him aswell and turned what seemed to be a lost cause into my best ever worker. Can't describe how gutted I am tonight!

sad news. but on a positive note look at the experience you gaining by owning him, as with everything it is not all plain sailing working animals.you didnt give up when you thought he was a lost cause and through perserverance he came good. good luck for the future ferreting.

....well went over to pick my new stinker up this morning from redtailhalk1. It was a pleasure to meet him and his family and great to see little kids getting involved in looking after the animals and enthusiastic about getting out in the field. Nice to see such well kept animals and a crackin hawk aswell.

New hob is currently getting settled in his new home. He's had a bit of a ragging from my jill who decided that even though he's more or less the same size as her, the fact he's still a kit means she should drag him into her nest box every 5 minutes. She's also been asserting her authority a bit during feeding but nothing serious. He's a little bit more timid than I'm used to but I'll give him a day to get used to his hutch and pain in the ass hutch mate and then he'll get plenty of handling until he's ready to get out in the field.

So, thanks again to redhalk for his generosity and for helping me fill the hole my hob left so quickly. I'll keep you updated on his progress.
