Guest vin
Got up early and was on the road for 4am,Went and picked Tomo up and we set off down south for a mooch about on some heathlands...Arrived at location at 7am and set off for an early morning mooch about with a couple of ferrets and a few nets between us. Venus and Molly were knocking bunnies up out of the long Sage grass clumps..but they missed quite a few due to them being very close to the burrows and just dropping in a hole as soon as dogs got on top of them... the whole area was just a mass of large warrens that were all holding bunnies but so vast they were very difficult to work because of the size and the fact that I only had 1 half decent ferret and a small Micro type.. they were bolting them but mostly they were just dropping back below ground. The dogs caight more than we did in the nets and made some great catches between them... Next time we,ll take the long nets and half a dozen ferts and should do really well. what an enjoyable way to spend a morning watching the dogs working in a great place.. cheers Tomo for the great bit of sport. We finished on 9 bunnies which is not a big score...by most standards...But they were well earned. When we got back to Tomo's house, After a nice cuppa tea,Tomo comes out of the kitchen with a very very nice bowl of Rabbit Stew.. I must say it was very tasty indeed. Quote Link to post

TOMO 26,620
Yeh really enjoyable walk for just a few short hours,,, I have to say how warm it got very quick yesterday, I ended up walking with just my t shirt on,,,, and that heat really affected the dogs,, that last stretch of sedge ,, produced about 10 runners in about 10 mins,, with not a single catch,,, it was plain to see thay were fooked... Yep those massive sand warrens go very deep,, so it's hard work for inexperienced ferrets,,, and harder to catch them with only 20 nets,,,it's one of those places where a hundred nets and long nets are the order of the day... but that wasn't the objective ...... Just a good wander and run a few bits and pieces... Cheers mate 2 Quote Link to post

Tiny 7 1,694
I thought that cause there hanging of the ferret run, Automatically thought it was a 6 ft high run till i looked at the ferrets and water bottles and seen it it that high..... Quote Link to post
