richc12 84
right just looking to learn a bit from you experienced bullx owners.... i dont keep lurchers of any description... just terriers and spaniels... i understand how there bred and the purpose they were bred for, but having never kept one why is that so many advise that there not the type of cross for a novice..... ? ive read that some keep head bangers??.... why..? some prefer a laid back type good around other dogs and live stock etc seems the right idea to me... having admired these dogs for a while, just really interested in the pros/cons and advice you lads suggest in keeping such a cross.. cheers rich Quote Link to post

gamerooster 1,179
thankyou samba..... how do you go about rearing and managing your dogs, i know there not mythical dogs that breath fire..... just interested in how you rear and care for such a cross.... first off you get a well bred bull cross pup from working stock secondly you put all your time and effort into it .......................... then you realise all bull x's are s.h.i.t.e and get a coursing bred dog lol no all joking aside, if you bring them up as pups around stock, children and other dogs, and there from working stock, there is no reason why it shoudlent turn out to be a decent worker Quote Link to post
suffolkpoacher 219
There no different to any other breed if bought on form a pup correctly, can be head strong at times but all pups of any breed can test you patients 2 Quote Link to post
rossthedog 76
more rubbish written about bull xs and patterdales than any other working dog breeds, who is arrogant enough to class another man as begginer for a start ,ive had a few bull xs and ive liked them all some were better than others but bought up with care and respect which all dogs deserve you wont have a problem ,if you research any breed hard enough you will find a rew nighmare examples,a lot of bull xs are worked loose on digs with terriers and they have proven bomb proof, i cant think of more highly charged situation for a lurcher to be in yet bullxs are the chosen breed by most terrier enthusiasts. reddawn 2,173
bullxs were bred for fox, an folk soon caught on that a good un can do almost anything, well on lamp anyways, iv always found them to be 1 of the easiest x's to get on with, maybe its cos we always had a mongrel staffy about as kids, you will always get headcases, but ye get them in most x's, just my opinion Quote Link to post
alex.s 19
mines very head strong he will go in full on at anything ive seen him full pelt into brick walls and get up and carry the chase on but get him home and he is chilled as anything else and he is my first lurcher and i can get on with him most the time but he is a gray x bull x sluki so he forgets his name sometimes but its all about the time you put into any dog Quote Link to post
MuddyPaws! 27
id say its a load of shite.. i dont see how there "hard work"? ofcourse with them having bull in them they are more likely to have a much higher prey drive than others.. this isnt really a problem just abit more training and time.. not really hard work in my opinion like.
