Ducks and an owl....

Recommended Posts

Eventful evening last night at our flight pond.

We had cleared some channels in the reeds and fed the pond over the weekend, so we were looking forward to some decent sport.

Anyway, when we wandered up, there were 18 mixed head on it, mallard, tufties and a couple of teal.....all good!

I was sitting in my chosen hidey hole, behind a wee alder tree.....its just getting darkish, gloaming time....the mozzies are chewing me to bits, but I was sitting stock still waiting....looks down at the spaniel as her ears had just cocked forward, looks to my right......fekk me ragged a bloody big tawny owl was about 4 foot from my head, wings flared, feet outstretched, just about to land on my fekkin noggin....fancied me for a perch! I let out a squeal, luckily no other bodily functions erupted! The owl circled out, came back in for a look at me and landed up a tree to my right and started screetching at me!

My mate was in his hide away to my left and was pishing himself laughing, I thought he was going to collapse....little fekker...he hadnt seen it, due to the darkness, but he had me squacking like a big jessie and then the owl screeching, so he guessed what was happening....found it right amusing.

So, about 20 mins later, 4 mallard dropped in, I took 2 drakes and the wee man dropped another......that was the end of our sport, too dark after that, but, there were more mallard dropping in as we climbed out back up to the car....looks like we should get some decent dusck shooting if there is a clear night! Plenty about....

Hope you lads are getting into them too....
