Aaron Proffitt 142
I was just curious...when you guys do your paperwork up you have to do it for a specific caliber and for that particular gun ? Correct ? So, I was thinking , I'm having a .223 rebarreled to a .17 Remington. In the UK , would you have to get a different FAC for it ? And how would this work for a rifle like a Thompson/Center Contender or Encore with barrel/caliber interchangeability ? I guess I'm just trying to figure your guys' system. Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Not a shooter so don't know for certain, but i assume you'd have to put in for a variation to change your certification with the police. Your FAC also defines what cal ammo you can buy and store, so if you're only licenced for .223 you wouldn't be able to purchase any other without changing your certificate.. Quote Link to post

kenny14 656
Basicly, to have a 223 rebarrelled to 17, you'd first have to apply for a 'one for one' variation ie : replacing one 223 cal with one 17 cal. You'd then have to wait till your ammended FAC came back before you could collect the rebarrelled rifle, even though the serial No of the rifle, and entered on the certificate would obviously remain the same. In the case of interchangeable barrels of different calibres, you'd have to apply for such and have them entered on you certificate. You'd also apply to be allowed to purchase/aquire and have in your possession the ammunition for the two different calibres. Our firearms licensing procedure is full of red tape! 1 Quote Link to post
Aaron Proffitt 142
Ok, I got ya, Kenny. So it wouldn't be impossible by any means , but definitly inherently more difficult. Not more difficult that acquiring a standard FAC, but, requires more paperwork. kenny14 656
Certainly not impossible, but definitely more paperwork which is a pain in the backside! Our FAC's are very specific, and we have to apply for variations for any change, including how much ammunition we want to be able to aquire or keep at any one time. Quote Link to post
