jackinbox99 41
You often read about a dog getting into trouble in the water on ice the owner goes in to save it drowns and the dog comes out alive Very true and very sad. But I know I wouldn't hesitate to jump in to try and save my dog. Guess it's an in build reaction.
johnny boy68 11,726
Love my dogs, my old bitch is like a best mate BUT my family mean the world to me. Sad to lose a dog I know but sadder for kids to lose a parent.

whippet 99 2,613
i would try to help any thing or any one in trouble ...................no matter what kind .........................me down fall mother tells me your right mate but, im sorry my kids and family come first and id be willing to jump in if it was the kids or a person. if it wasnt fast moving water / canal then i may consider helping but you cant replace your kids / family as you could do an animal Its because your getting a chance to think about it rationally the now. In the heat of the moment with a screaming owner panicking about his/her dog you might just think it looks safe enough and dive in. Thats when folk get caught out...... Put it this way if Sara Hardings dog was drowning in a vat of lava id strip bollock naked and backstroke out there for the wee b*****d.................... that first bit is so true mate .................when our youngest was a toddler we were camping next to a river and i looked round just to see him fall over the edge of a steep bank i jumped over the edge and didnt really look what i was jumping into and fook me i just grabbed the boy and held him above the water and i had a job to stay up ...................any way cut long story short i shit meself when i was in there .............it could of been a different story , but your statement is so true ....................i thought he would never go near water again ..............how wrong was i............i got me youngest with no fear of nothing whos 8years and me oldest who is sensible like his dad lol...............................i do me best to keep drumming it into him how dangerous water is.............me old man lost his best friend to sea .............whilst out swimming off coast in devon.......... back tide took him under and away...............i hate kids around water............look at the poor lad down burnham who just fell off a boat launching ramp........tide took him ............gone,,,,,,.......the responce from the public was outstanding....................never seen such a big flower tribute...................rip little fella.............cant imagine what the family feels

northern lad 2,292
Its easy to say what you would /wouldnt do until your in that situation, some years ago when the wifes staff was a pup,we went up to the leeds/liverpool canal at crook, wigan,I let the pup off the lead ignoring the wifes protests!!the pup went straight to the edge and dropped about 2to3 foot through cat ice and panicked, swimming further out,to cut a long story short I jumped in swam out grabbed her and threw her up to my father in law.Having swam in the bridgewater canal many times as a kid I wrongly assumed the margins would be reasonably shallow here, they werent!if the father in law wasnt there not sure how I would have got out ,im a fairly strong swimmer but the water was freezing to the point I was struggling to breathe, what seemed like a fairly safe(but cold)option could have been lethal, would I do it again,Id say no,but when you see your pride and joy in danger you dont allways make the best decisions
