i have done 100yrd slip and my dog is fine as long as something is at the end for the dog they will be fine

best answer

:icon_eek: How is that the best answer, on a 100 yard slip the dog will be tiring before getting there

Its the best answer cos its the only answer. Read the question properly.

Derbylad and Chid have gave you the best answers though, there is a lot of factors to consider when planning a slip as Derbylad said

For your dog I would give it short slips all it's life but I slip my deer/greys and pure greys up to 50 yards, is that better for you

yea thats better. still nobodys answered about what sort of success rate it takes to keep a dog from becoming disheartened? I understand that every dog is different but would be nice to hear an attempt to answer that

Just wondering about the size of a slip you give your dogs on rabbits? If it's proven itself for a season or 2 do you slip it on rabbits you think it might not get or stick to slips in its favour. Can you still dishearten a dog with too many misses after a few seasons of good bags?

If you come across unlimited game then you can afford to be selective in your slips,if on the other hand you seldom see much then the dog as to take the only chance it may get.If im out and about and the dog makes a few easy catches and the night is coming to an end,ill give it a few longshots to give it more of a challenge and a better workout.

Lean the dog and the ground you run. No one can advice you on this barring perhaps someone that works with you. All dogs are different ; the speed, stamina and agility of a dog are all important so you need to Taylor the runs to the individual dog.

As for chance, if the dog has had work and know the score. Aslong as it has a 10% chance then slip it as otherwise you'll never know if you could have had an extra in your bag
