In the last week or so, i've had a couple of issues with other people, because of being in posession of a running dog. These have included a nosey and concerned neighbour, checking us out, and treating us with the utmost suspision and going as far as to say rabbiting with lurchers is illegal (we were on permission), a neighbouring farmer (of a permission) threatening to shoot the dogs if they come onto his land, a farmer whos land we have permission to lamp, being a bit off and grumpy because someone else has been lamping the ground, shining lamps through windows, messing with stock and poking about the farm yard, and another farmer saying to not come down because they have had folk with two lurchers chasing the cows, and had to repair the same fence (that had been cut) seven times! It turned out in the first instance above, that recently in that area a load of sheep had been mauled by lurchers, and i've no doubt that the second guy (who threatened to shoot the dogs), wouldnt have done so, had they been labs, or even terriers, and had most likely had a fair bit of grief in the past. All of the above cases were down to folk who were poaching the land, but not the actual poaching. Had they gone about their activities in a half sensible manner, no one would be any wiser and apart from loss of game, it wouldnt have caused us any grief. Things seem to have changed a lot, from the time when folk poaching tried their utmost not to be noticed, to now, where folk just think f**k it, what are they going to do, and carry on, with no respect. Then you add un stock trained dogs, some theiving and general vandalism and its hardly surprising most folk cant be f****d even entertaining lurcher folk. And of course it continues, the farmer gives you a frosty reception when you go to ask permission, so folk theink that they are a 'miserable c**t' and so act like cocks to them. I was reading on here the other day, a lad out poaching, farmer comes in his 4x4 to f**k him off, and folk are suggesting smacking him with a baseball bat, and on another post, kids laughing because they got caught poaching by forestry wardens and gave them a load of abuse etc. When ive been caught where i shouldnt have been in the past, i have accepted that from where the landowner / keeper etc is standing i am in the wrong, and have tried to remove myself from thesituation in the least confrontational manner and be as polite and calm as possible, apologising. And normally they are pretty ok, or even give permission, they certainly respond better to that than a big 'f**k you, ya c**t'! It just keeps getting worse, and i'm not sure there is much we can do, but it's f*****g shit, when you try to do things the right way, and you are a in the minority. Bloody keepers always knocking the dogmen Quote Link to post

How would you feel if someone came into your garden via a big hole they put the fence or hedge, noised your dogs up, dug big divots out your lawn or broke into your shed and nicked some tools and that? And all they were after in the first place was a few daffodils or even better a few slugs or snails? Quite extreme but in theory the same situation Quote Link to post

dimmock20 278
how is it that its always young lads that get blamed for it ? how many lads do you know that go out braking into sheds tracktors etc? how do you know it was lurchers that killed the sheep unless YOU witnessed it with your own eyes? how do you know there werent a legitement reason for game being left like it came on top and they had to make a fast exit? or even still unless you found the carcasses yourself and examined them how do you know it aint the trigger happy high powered rifle men that have there gun poked out of the window and shoot anything they can and leave it were its dropped? lurcher lads get blamed for everything i no there is a small handfull of idiots but you all but who needs antis when we have you lot?, young lads wearing shell suits and nike air max running round the countryside wrecklesly killing everything they see and thats just a cover up, what there really upto is stealing off farms and yes most are related to other crimes like drug dealing and being involeved in gangs Quote Link to post
Guest Leveller
There's a huge difference twixt genuine lads and muppets regardless of whether they are Lurcher owners, Rifle dickfucks, Pitbull hardmen etc etc there are good men with dogs and rifles and there are f*****g twats too. We must never let everybody get tarred with the same brush, it never ceases to amaze me how defensive some members get on here. If some prick without permission comes on your land and fucks shit up with dogs and then you mention it on here you get accused of being an anti or a grass it really is mental. If you're running and killing stock, leaving gear lying around to rot, driving over crops and cutting fences/gates and threatening landowners then you quite simply aren't a dogman/countryman/sportsman it's that black and white in my eyes, whether your weapon of choice is a lurcher, rifle or a load of tough guy status symbol dogs it makes no difference if you're dressed in chequered shirt, moleskins and a tie, the newest line of Warrener camo or you've just spent your giro on the winter sale at JJB sports it's all about respect, proper behaviour and being an ambassador for your chosen interest. I don't mean making sure your shit smells of roses and polishing your halo every night or never breaking the ridiculous hunting act or even dipping your toes somewhere you might not be exactly allowed but if you chose to do so then stay under the radar get in and out without trace and ensure that no honest hard working man has to bare any financial loss through your actions. Respect your dogs, respect the land and respect the quarry the very second you don't is the exact point that you become an knobhead 5 Quote Link to post
lurcher330 2,301
I work alot of land i don't have permission on but i have been on the same land for years without any hassell ,they must know i am there but are not bothered because i dont cause any trouble, but i also have a lot of permission which i got most of from bumping into the farmer/landowner while i was on it,just be civil and conduct your self in a proper manner and you should not have any problems, and if you do gain some permission in an area you might just get away with going over the boundary ,the old line "i have permission off Paddy ,is this not his land" can work wonders . I have no problem with people on land without permission as long as it is not my permission but if you are a dick you should be treated like one and pulled off the land 1 Quote Link to post
