Annual injections

I admit that I have only ever had the puppy jabs for my dogs, I just wanted to see what the general opinion was concerning the jabs, it looks to be 50/50 boost or not, I would be interested to know what the only puppy jabed dogs died of.

 

If my memory serves me right, the vets said that my terrier

died of a mixture of nastys caught from that ratting session, either true or not

i know that i do not want the same to happen to my other dogs so i take them to the vets

once a year to have the done,

but as scallwag said my vet rotates these boosters as to not affect their

immune system,,

I THINK WHAT DTCHY IS SAYING IS THAT BOOSTERS ARE A LOAD OF SHITE AND THAT ITS JUST VETS MAKING MONEY.

 

I HAVE ALSO READ THAT REPORT OR AT LEAST PART OF IT. IT WAS ACTUALY UP ON ONE OF THESE SITES A FEW YEARS AGO.

 

LEPTOSPIROSES, OR WIELS DISEASE. NOW I ASKED ABOUT THIS A FEW YEARS AGO AT WARICK UNI DOING MY B.P.C.A COURSE. I ASKED WHY WAS IT THAT DOGS COULD GET VACINARED AGIANST IT BUT US AS PESTERS COULD NOT. AND THE ANSWER WAS THIS . THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFRENT STRAINS OF LEPTO THAT VACINTION IS NOT GOING TO WORK.

 

SO I ASKED HOW COME IT WORKS FOR DOGS, I GOT NO ANSWER.

 

DONT GET ME WRONG YOU NEED TO VACINATE AS PUPS BUT THE BOOSTERS , ARE JUST FOR MAKING MONEY.

 

HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU BEEN VACINATED FOR POLIO, HOOPING COUGH, TB ECT ONLY ONCE THATS HOW VACINES WORK . THEY GIVE A TINY DOSE SO THAT YOUR IMUNE SYSTEM LEARNS TO FIGHT THAT VIRUS. ITS THE SAME IN ANIMALS.

I have had the bitch jab with the first two, I asked the vet if it was necessary to have the booster, of course he said it was, when I asked for it in writting he refused, when I asked him why he suggested that I found another vet as he would not allow dogs into his surgery that had not had annual boosters, so it's catch 22.

Your vet sounds like a bit of a tw@t. Why can't he at least enter into a discussion with you? Mind you, asking him to put something in writing was probably a bit provocative

I give my dogs boosters because I travel and take the dogs with me when I go, including into cities. I've heard of a couple of country dogs like mine that haven't had their boosters and been taken into cities where they've died of (I think) parvo.

as i am going to have pet insurance for my and my dads pups.would we have to keep the annual injections upto date so it doesnt affect claiming of the pet insurance.

Well I will read ditchys link with interest I have spoken to vets who beleive that boosters are neccersary but not annually, I still vaccinate annually for several reasons, difficult to find a GOOD boarding kennels if not jabbed up, keeps my insurance valid and if I decide to bog off and emmigrate I'd rather like to take my dogs with us. However annual vaccinations have always been a hot potato with dogfolk...............
