sidebyside 0
Do you have your dog boosted each year with jabs? Or just have the first course when they are puppies? Edited June 13, 2007 by sidebyside Quote Link to post
bracken28 0
for the sake of £25 a year or the risk(no matter how small) of losing ya dog to either parvo, distemper or some of the many other nasty's i know which i choose.. Made that mistake many years ago when i lost one of my best terriers after a big ratting session, dog died only 2 days after so not willing to make the same mistake twice,, Quote Link to post
montague 0
Years ago when i kept terriers instead of lurchers i just had them jabbed as pups, silly really as terriers are more liable to pick up disease than lurchers IMO. My mother lost one of her most loyal terriers through not being up to date with innoculations. The tears she shed made me think twice & ever since then ALL my dogs are boosted every year. MikeTheDog 153
Some reckon you don't need to give boosters to your dogs, but for the small price and no apparent side effect I don't think it's worth the risk not giving them the protection. If you ever need to put your dogs in kennels they will need to have had their boosters done. Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
Listen, Sidebyside; IF ye prepared to spend about three f*ckin nights ~ as I did ~ Very Carefully reading, digesting and absorbing a Twenty Eight Page PDF from a body Experianced and Qualified to give a tad more than an emotive sound bite on this subject ....? Then PM me a working e mail addy I can send it to ye. K? Only, one 'minor' condition? I would then like to send the stream of other people, demanding to view this water shed, to you for a copy. See, fact is; I have a slow connection here. I'll send out the one copy. But sending it again and again would tie up my computer for days and nights! We Really need to educate the masses, bring them up to scratch on this issue. I simply haven't the modem power. Just the evidence. You game? Quote Link to post
Scallywag 78
My vet rotates the vaccinations so they don't get the same thing each year. Most vaccines only need to be boosted every 3 years (there are some exceptions, Lepto's one I think). So my dogs get jabbed every year but not with the same cocktail of vaccines. This is better for the dog's immune system and long term health. Quote Link to post

Guest SJM
I use homeopathic nosodes which are given to the dogs on a monthly basis, in tablet form, dropped into their water bowls, allthough you can also drop them onto the dogs tongues. I have been using these for a year or so now and it saves a fortune! I dont go to many shows etc so my dogs are rarely at risk of disease, but from reading up about vaccination, It appears its another one of those great ways that vets have for shafting the general public My vet told me the best thing to do is wait until after 12 weeks, vaccinate the puppy with a complete booster and then just leave it, and hes the non money grabbing type so I have no reason to doubt what he says. Personally I dont even bother with that, I just dose with nosodes from puppyhood onwards An excellent site to learn about vaccination risks etc : http://www.canine-health-concern.org.uk/ Quote Link to post
THE POACHER 13
ill be honest and say i only jab my dogs as pups they get worked week n week out in the season and i have never had any problems what so ever Quote Link to post
TOMO 26,764
I THINK WHAT DTCHY IS SAYING IS THAT BOOSTERS ARE A LOAD OF SHITE AND THAT ITS JUST VETS MAKING MONEY. I HAVE ALSO READ THAT REPORT OR AT LEAST PART OF IT. IT WAS ACTUALY UP ON ONE OF THESE SITES A FEW YEARS AGO. LEPTOSPIROSES, OR WIELS DISEASE. NOW I ASKED ABOUT THIS A FEW YEARS AGO AT WARICK UNI DOING MY B.P.C.A COURSE. I ASKED WHY WAS IT THAT DOGS COULD GET VACINARED AGIANST IT BUT US AS PESTERS COULD NOT. AND THE ANSWER WAS THIS . THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFRENT STRAINS OF LEPTO THAT VACINTION IS NOT GOING TO WORK. SO I ASKED HOW COME IT WORKS FOR DOGS, I GOT NO ANSWER. DONT GET ME WRONG YOU NEED TO VACINATE AS PUPS BUT THE BOOSTERS , ARE JUST FOR MAKING MONEY. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU BEEN VACINATED FOR POLIO, HOOPING COUGH, TB ECT ONLY ONCE THATS HOW VACINES WORK . THEY GIVE A TINY DOSE SO THAT YOUR IMUNE SYSTEM LEARNS TO FIGHT THAT VIRUS. ITS THE SAME IN ANIMALS. JUST VETS OUT TO EARN MORE TOMO Quote Link to post
lawrence 657
have to admit i do mine myself as pups ( 10 euro per pup) and thats it, never had any problems. its been years from i've even spoke to a patronizing, money grabbing b*****d...... sorry meant to type vet there. Quote Link to post

sidebyside 0
I admit that I have only ever had the puppy jabs for my dogs, I just wanted to see what the general opinion was concerning the jabs, it looks to be 50/50 boost or not, I would be interested to know what the only puppy jabed dogs died of.
