R.A.W 1,987
i've got three at the moment . an old girl of 8 then one that 4 and i've got a pup too . i only work one on my own on the lamp. but they all come ferreting. i agree with some of the lads that two are needed incase one is injured. theres onlyone thing worse than going lamping without a dog and thats missing out on agreat night then all the boys telling you what you missed out on the next day :cray:
oldred58 340
I had one dog for years a collie gray first cross, good all rounder, many of time carrying a rabbit back cought on the lamp, and a fox fallowed with the squill, taken the rabbit of him, then run the fox, killed it, then ran rabbits the rest of the night and carried them back to hand alive, and whould work with terriers hunting in the day, for bolters and marking earths

kenny14 656
I've found seven to be the ideal number because: A. Seven Dogs running one Rabbit means the odds are with the Dogs B. When I call them back, at least one sometimes comes C. I don't get tired carrying lots of rabbits home 'cos there's usually nowt left by the time I get there Which also means - D. I don't need to wast money on Dog food, so I can spend more time in the pub telling everyone how good a hunter I am E. When I'm walking through the town with my seven mean looking Dogs pulling me along, everyone gets outa my way 'cos they know I must be 'ard F. I don't get as scared out in the dark if I've got seven Dogs with me I did try keeping more but I couldn't close the coal shed door, and they kept clearing off In reality, I keep one Lurcher at the moment, and I've never had more than two. Even if Lurcher work was my only sport I think I'd still find it hard to justify keeping more. Edited September 26, 2012 by kenny14
MoChara 1,632
I keep two lurcher's, one 3/4 grey 1/4 collie and one bull/wheaten/deerhound x deerhound And as previously stated, i wouldnt keep anymore than two - it is hard enough trying to work two lurchers... ..well for me anyway.
