What's best .22 semi

Recommended Posts

I've got a Bruno CZ 511 and all has been ok for many years but now it jams every or every other shot, I've tried all types of subsonic ammo and none work better than the other.

So I guess we all get old I bought it new at least 20 yrs ago

So, what do you lot use? Is there something that holds more than 8 shots?

Cheers

Ruger 10/22 are a good choice mate, 10 round mag, if you can find one that has been breathed on so to speak, IE. hogue stock free floating the barrel, and either a change of trigger or a trigger job, (standard triggers are awefull) keep the rotary mag clean and it will give trouble free service, or if you fancy something really special, try rimfire magic in south yorks, they build some stunning ones, carbon fibre barrels ect, have fun mate.

try taking the mag apart, clean and reasemble using sewing machine oil, might even need a new spring, it could also be wear on the scoope that feeds the round into the chamber, rub it with your finger to see of its smooth with no sharp edges. 10 rnd mags for the chinese cz copy the puma fit all cz 22lr`s

Hi Phill

According to youtube the most reliable semi in .22 is the Sig 522. Although I have no experience of it, it has had some rave reviews.

here is one such review

Why on earth would anyone want one of these to go hunting with you'd look a proper Charlie....if this thing floats your boat join the army.

I've got a ruger 10/22 and it's a great tool trigger job is easily carried out by anyone competent with a set of tools. It's very accurate and mine has seen the demise of many a rabbit

At risk of being boring.... Am I missing something here?

That sig522 may suit rambo types (dude) but surely for bunny bashing you need a .22 which is steady and accurate and capable of grouping better than an inch out to, say, 75 yards.

Both of my .22's are CZ, bolt action with 5 shot mags and although I can see how a bigger mag could be useful, it would tend to get in the way.

Even when shooting in areas infested with rabbits I have never felt that I need anything that will turn a rate of fire faster than I can operate the bolt.

Keeping the mag topped up is easy and you could always use a second mag.

I have never used a semi so could be accused of ignorance, a fair point, but given that some of the power generated by the firing of a bullet has to be used to recycle the bolt a semi has to be less accurate and less powerful than a standard bolt action rifle.

So, in my opinion, for shooting animals where wounding is not acceptable, take your time, be accurate and get clean kills.

Rapid firing 25 rounds at a target 15 yards away does not float my boat.

Best wishes to all

Some good replies there and agree whilst the sig does look a bit of fun it's a bit of a paintball gun. The only reason I wanted another semi is because I do a lot with my father who is 80 he drives me round and I pop off bunnies, he enjoys it and I can hang out of the window sort of one armed.

I'm gonna pop along to my gunshop and see what they have, may even look at another size.

Les I've always found the gun accurate at 50 yds i could Put 3 holes in and inch circle, but will look at bolt action if you think they are more accurate.

Cheers everyone.

i shoot with a remmington 597 .22 mag semi- auto .... the last shot in the magazine always seems to be the most accurate and i dont feel the recoil because the door lies open when empty!! i'm guessing a bolt action would be more accurate!
