Recommended Posts

Just a quick question , what range is a 243 Rifel good for when shooting fox and roe deer? I am thinking of putting in for one . thanks LK

it all bepends how good the man is on the trigger end .. 300 yrds aint out of the way ;)

if you can put it in the right place for a humane kill

Further than you will be able to hit one!

It all depends on your skill, the weather, the backstop, the bullet etc, but if you are knew to rifle shooting, practice and practice on a target at different ranges and different positions and in different weather conditions, and you will soon get an idea of what you the rifle and the ammo can do.

If I cant hit a 5cm circle at a given distance, I wont try whacking a fox at it. Same with a deer but you have a slightly larger kill zone for me.

Centerfire is pretty different ballgame mate. Of course similar safety applies but the rules change somewhat as range is no longer the restriction, YOU are. Not saying bad shots don't happen but applying a bit of fieldcraft and keeping shots to less than 200 meters (preferably less than 100 / 150) should do you and the animal a favour. You'd probably enjoy it more as well.

i'm not bloeing my whistle here just merely stating what the rifle can do, i've shot and dropped reds at close to 300 yards in perfect conditions,

and i've shot foxes at 537 yards as a few on here can testify in older posts,

i've not picked up the rifle this year at all and so i'll steo back range until i build skill level again,

theres only one thing to limit the shot and thats your own confidence of placing it where it needs to go, i've seen guys with larger calibres fail shots

at really close ranges, and i simply wouldn't ever shoot with them again,

As stated earlier on practice at various ranges with rounds you intend to use, and get to know drops and what the rounds do in the wind,

good luck,

Snap.
