Saturday night - right place right time....

My shooting mate texted me on saturday night, did I fancy a go at the ducks down by the river, or a wee sit up the high seat for an hour.....and oh, could I bring him some beef stock cubes as he had run out (the real reason for a saturday night text!). Only jokin!!

 

Anyways, collected his stock cubes and tootled on out.....we wandered down to the high seat and settled in for a wee wait.

 

As usual there was banter and slagging going on, quietly enough.....the wee man had a smoke and we were just passing a pleasant evening.

 

I looked to my right and a buck stepped out of the tree line, about 30 yards from us....I could see he was a decent size, but that was about it. The wee yin said, get on him (my turn, I had spotted the last 3 for him) and I couldnt get on it...not with the rifle in my right shoulder.....so I switched to lefty and got on him....he was moving slightly away left to right and so I had to take the shot slightly further back than normal. I heard the impact as I squeezed and watched as he stumbled slightly then took off....ran about 60 yards and collapsed right in front of a dry stane dyke.

 

When we walked up after 5 or 10, we saw that he was indeed a good quality beast. There wont be much better off our side of the river. Once he was gralloched out, I had to drag him about a mile uphill to the jeep, I dont mind telling you I was blowing hard!

 

Once his head is cleaned up, I will post a picture, nice champagne flute style 6 pointer...very nice condition. About 2 years old.

Think so Rake, will have to have a look at it......I have a couple, that is the smaller of the 2.

I hae the P8 on my 243 as well, will be trying it on the new 222 shortly annaw, hopefully it`ll like it then ah think the 243 might go.

Lab, I have a better photie of the heed, but I look like a right wean scarer in it (not that I'm an oil painting any other time!) Even the wife looked at it and said - fekks sakes you better not show anyone that.....ha!

Rake, whit .222 did you get? I have the Brno version, right old rifle, but its great, love the calibre.....I have another mod that I need to get fitted to the Brno and I will get back to using it more than the .243.......I like the .243 for stalking.....usually use the .222 for sitting out.

Lab, freezer is bulgin!! We had the neck last night, slow cooked for 5 hours in veggies and some red wine....it was braw! Soft and juicy, my wee lad and lass had 3 plates each...couldnae believe how much they ate!! I split the beast with my mate, when we have enough they go to the dealer.....or if anyone needs any. You got plenty?

Ermmm yes my mate ermmmm "shot" one the other night so i have a nice bit in the freezer... If i get short i just open the bathroom window and drop wan.....f**k this sitting in a cold highseat carry on.......
