hooded talons make very nice hoods at a good price ive found that cheap hoods can make a bird hood shy if its not good quality

im having problems with my fhh hooding!! i have a cheap weastweld falconry 1 that came with her when i got her and she has been getting worse day by day but have since bought more expensive and better quailty ones and she wont even go in them!! dont know what to do next :( HELP!!

hooding in my opinion is a no brainer i see only postives in hooding a bird even a harris hawk and i think its worth the hassle and what ever work it takes for me to continue using it then thats what i will do! i think its always nice to have the option also if ever a situation arrises where you really need to use a hood and i think in falconry those situations always arise!!!!!

my harris will take the hood but sometimes it takes 5-10 mins to be able to get the job done!!

im gonna try taking off and putting on repeat repeat before every flying session everyday for a while i think!!

cheers

i think hooding a harris is uncessary but if uyou wantbto carry on hooding her then spending time with her on the glove in front of the telly with the hood next to her and occasionaly slipping it on and off very slowly is the way to do it i would not do the braces up when you are taking on and off but also stroke her with the hood make as comfortable with the hood as posible

hood every bird except owls lol ,

bullseye i wouldt bother hooding a harris hawk is there a reason why you hood her because its more hassle than its worth also if a bird does become hood shy then it takes alot of work to get the bird to take the hood nicly aggain. and harris hawks are so relaxed about things you raley if ever need a hood

u must be getting the size wrong there is to ways and a good hoodmaker like ken hooke will always replace if it dont fit

1st way is the give the hoodmaker its weight

2nd is to give a behind the eye measurement

a good hood maker will normally be 1 size out and can never state to get it right first time ,what type of hood are u using on your harris i would recommend a anglo rather than a ductch because of the head shape ,a dutch suites a falcon more in my opinion .a good fitting hood should have no gaps at all no matter how small arouns the cere ,not be tight at the back where the braces pull ,i have had bird where a certain size hood fits well but when i pulled the braces it was to tight.if in any dought regarding fit take a pic and post it or pm it me and ill have a look but u need to take the pics cose up around cere ect.contact ken hooke he will have it here to you in a week and thats from canada ,i stand by his work all day long plus he mentored me when i was hoodmaking

do it every day in your routing for weighting ,moving the bird this way the bird will accept the hood more and more plus you will get better and better with hooding a bird

totally disagree with that comment, hooding a bird make life alot better ,bird is calm while weight, when moving the bird if by any chance the leash slips out out hand and it can and does happen the bird cant bait and fly of with all its furniture on,travelling you dont need giant boxes in the vehicle just a cadge if moveing more than one or a bow pirch ,there are far far more plus points in hooding a bird than not to

Lol he bought my dutch blocks of me ,what type u ordered as I say a dutch is better for falcons .also use a hood protector to keep its shape as once its been nelt on or mis shaped it needs to be re shaped ,u get what u pay for in a hood .

People pay good money on a bird then get a hood of eBay for a tenner ,not aimed at you but in general
