great write up and pics jai your always saying your dog is nuts and likes to work way out in front of you so what happens when he makes a kill will he retrieve or just wait on you getting to him am not trying to take the piss am just curious

Cheers all!

Bryson - if he is on his own and he makes a kill he can carry, he will bring it to me, if its something he can't carry, he will stay with it, until i find him. If there is another dog about, he will usually give it straight up to them, once its caught.

Although he works off a long way, he will keep coming back and checking where you are and where you are heading, and shits himself if he thinks he has actually lost you.

Interestingly, down here, where there are less rabbits about, if he runs one to ground, he will either wait there, or come back to see where i am and then go back to the mark. Up there though, where there are a lot of rabbits around, he will run one to ground, mark for a while, and if you are not in sight, he will leave it and move on, unless its really shallow, so he can dig it out.

He works different on his own to when there are other dogs about, if its just me and him, he doesnt go so far, as soon as he has competition so to speak, he starts to feck off, he would rather go and work another patch of cover on his own, then work the same patch as other dogs.

Same as ferreting, he can be a bit keen at first, if other dogs are there, but a lone, he will wait and sit or stand where i need him and is very steady.

He just doesnt like to share the rabbits!

cheers for that mate i have a hard blood and he pretty much the same as what your describing when its just me and him hes a very laid back but when theres other dogs hes hunting at 100 mile an hour as for retrieving it poor to say the least when other dogs are there i blame this on the farmers collie the gave him a hiding for his catch but when its just me and him hes pretty much faultless in my eyes
