Mat Watson 3
I know its in the wrong section but i thought it would be seen and helpfull here. Dog theft is an ever increasing problem in the UK. I thought it might be an idea to have a topic based around kennel security, alarms, lighting and CCTV. With advice about where to get decent alarms and cctv, etc at reasonable prices? For example my kennel is a standard 14x6x6 bought second hand from a friend but made by (trojan timber products) I have a 12g. alarm mine wired to the outer door with thin fishing line so its hard to see if you dont know where to unhook it. ( http://www.henrykran...ducts_id=2964 ) The outer door and face to the kennel is 8cm bar. The company below were the best priced for the thickest bar density i could find. ( www.dogpanelruns.co.uk ) The kennel is shiplap and lined with 20mm marine ply incase the bast#ds try to smash there way in, the roof aswell. The inner face to the kennel is the standard kennel from made from 10g wire and locked with ( http://www.screwfix....ck-70mm/39386 ) i went for round locks because there harder to get a good hit on with a hammer and thers no flat surface to aim at. The outer door is chained and locked with the same type of padlock. I also have a securitly light on the house overlooking the kennel but below the hight of the fence so it doesnt go off everytime the neibours go into their garden. I know its probly abit over the top but decent terriers are hard to come by so you might aswell protect them as best you can. Thanks for reading. Mat Watson 1 Quote Link to post
lapin2008 1,587
Good topic, I have a couple of cameras on mine, one is inside the run facing the door the idea being anyone trying to open it i get a full face shot picture. The other is above and looks down on the whole garden especially to the front of the pen. Also apart from the pad locks on the kennel and run I have also hammered the flat head screws and slightly drilled out the cross head ones to make it as difficult as possible to remove the locks with a screwdriver. 1 Quote Link to post
Mat Watson 3
Where about did you get your cameras from? As I bought a set of 2 external cameras and the first hint of frost they misted over and stopped working. Quote Link to post

I just got them off amazon, and picked something i thought would be a right for cost/functionality. I will have to see how they fair in the cold to be honest as I only put them up a couple of months ago. Quote Link to post
MAIN MAN 277
The best idea is to not let them see the dogs in the first place, they will steel the dogs even if there is cameras and locks, my mate has a guard dog that will stop anyone even getting near the kennels. The people that take other lads dogs are lawless ars holes who need to be beaten to an inch of there lives when there caught. and there names put up for all to see. 6 Quote Link to post

willum 89
Cpc supply cameras look for the vandal proof ir colour mono cams or the bullet type with ir Honeywell vantage or q vision are a few makes . Or try enterprise security they have a few outlets in most major city's .as for alarms you could have a small 8 zone panel with remote keypad located in a shed or your house to arm and disarm door contacts fitted on the inside of your kennel doors and perimeter beams on the outside of the run set up. If you have a phone point nearby you could extend / run a cable to a dialler on or near the main alarm panel set with 4 phone numbers when the alarm is triggered it then dials out with a recorded MSG of your choice sum wireless panels have 2 way audio so you can listen in on your phone then you can shout back at them hope this help aswell . 1 Quote Link to post
Mat Watson 3
Good advice willum, I like the sound of the phone alarms but what are the prices like?. Up at work we had a quote to alarm the workshop with that type of system and they were talking hundreds £. Quote Link to post
willum 89
For the 2 way audio panels they come with 2 pir sensors and a door contact and a bell with strobe around the 300 mark but if it was for the standard panel which hard wired and no 2 way audio but you can connect a 1 way dialler that plays you the recorded MSG would be about 45 for the panel 25 for bell 70 for the dialler 6 for a contact and ish for the beams this would all be hard wired though. Muzzle 0
My biggest concern is when there are pups on the ground. I have a few big dogs that people won't pass to get to the small ones. I've had a few uninvited visitors that I know of but none tried to bet passed the adult dogs. Quote Link to post
Mat Watson 3
Ive got a similar problem coming up, Im due to get a litter of pups from my patterdale bitch if all goes to plan in march, and dont want strangers poking around my kennels, with any luck she'll have a small litter so they can be catered for by friends that have already put their names down.
