Sharp hunting knife for gutting rabbits

Recommended Posts

For a fixed blade,I use a carbon steel mora clipper, cos they hold a better edge for longer than the stainless version, but you must keep them clean and keep a dab of oil on them or they'll pit up and hold germs.

I like the stanley idea though, simple and effective. I wonder if anybody's tried the curved carpet blades as a gut hook? Might be worth a go?

Cheers, wurz

Stick with Opinels, Very cheap, Easy to sharpen, you can shave with them if you're brave, small one for breasting pigeons, larger ones for rabbits. Buy half a dozen and put one in every jacket you go shooting in, problem solved!

Seriously, my missis has pinched all my larger ones as kitchen knives because they hold an edge so well.

One tip though, always dry them and smear some cooking oil on the blade.

Totally agree ive been using the same opinel no9 for the past 9 years its razor sharp and very easy to keep an edge on.
