The first time I was up for "Tresspass in pursuit of Game or Coney" was in the 60's, and they fined me £60, and my weekly wage was £53; fairly severe for a young man with a wife and kid, but it was a hare that I took off a Lords land, and that couldn't be allowed !! On a different note Thursday night at the Rifle Club , I was the youngest out of eight blokes by six years. Their ages 62 ,67, ?, ? , ?, 78 and 82, and that old chap still shoots like John Wayne. border lad 1,047 Posted September 23, 2012 Report Share Posted September 23, 2012 born in 1945, were the Scottish national coursing was held, Hares were plentyful,for all to course, just had to avoid the keepers, I was out this morning waiting for the dawn to break so my dog could have a good run,, had some decent dogs down through the years and some not so good, and had my Hairy moments, like the one, we were out netting a few silvery ones that run in the end of june and july, with the sheckle net, this night we had a nice catch, put the fish in the van, we decide to have a walk around the back of this old slaughter house, there is a few nice rabbits there, the dawn is just breaking, I see the dog catch a rabbit ok, I am walking looking at the dog, and WALK STRAIGHT INTO THE SLURRY TANK OF THIS SLAUGHTER HOUSE, down I go, Rats Jumping every were, I come up out of that tank like a launched, missile, hands on the side and straight out, the STENCH WAS THE MOST VILE you could ever encounter, ran back to the river, ((( I COULD RUN THEN,, washed my self down underpants off washed and rinsed them, and I drove home in my underpants only no boots nothing, left the sticken rotten clothing and boots behind, and that stench stayed with me for days well I imagined I could smell the rotten blood guts, rats piss and shite, and that memory is as fresh in my mind,as yesterdays walk, the dog I have at the moment is Handy, can do all edible but the problem is carrying some of it,, keep huntin Lads ((((( THE SPIRIT IS STRONG BUT THE FLESH IS WEAK,, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU TRY AND LUG A 60LB CARCASS Half a mile or so, 6 Quote Link to post
