Whizzie 38
Did anyone else see the spectacular meteor shower last night? I was out on one of my permissions at about 11 PM, when I saw, what I thought was a military fast jet approaching low from the eastern horizon. That's not unusual around here, in fact it's almost a daily occurrence at times. Like many people in the rural community, we get treated to lots of views of our hard earned tax payers coffers screeching through the sky above us. (I often think out of sheer jealously... "well at least I'm not p*ssing in a bag, strapped to my leg....!) lol. But this was quite different, there was no noise. The usual scream from the turbine as the aircraft approaches wasn't there, and as it passed overhead, no roar. I initially thought this guy must be giving it some, (firing his afterburner because of the length of the greeny yellow tail trailing behind.) Then something from the object broke off and appeared to fizzle out like a firework burning out. It was too low to be a shooting star, too small to be an aircraft. But very very impressive. Its been on the news this morning, check out some of the videos on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyiUPRV1DCk Another pleasure of a night out rabbiting! drobson67 1
I saw this object from Newcastle at 10.50pm last night, thought it was a firework at first, it was glowing green like burning copper with a long glowing trail with bits coming off it and was travelling east to west. Interestingly the observatory at Kielder witnessed a similar or the same object at 9.41pm but I looked at my watch and the time was 10.50pm. Could there have been more than one event?. Meteors burn up in a couple of seconds but this took about 20 seconds from when I saw it to travel across the sky changing from a glowing greenish colour to a golden colour as it fizzled out. It didnt look that high in the sky but must have been in the upper atmosphere as it was seen from northern england, scotland and northern ireland.
