Hob&Jill 258
I may be speaking out of turn here and I really don't want to offend but you could also flip that around and ask if your god or faith played a part in you still being here then surely it or he played a part in giving you the brain tumour? Why do folk always look at God as some kind of David Blaine figure I think it's a perfectly reasonable question. Why do religious people mould their figure of god to suit them. E.G a bus full of school children crashes and all the children die except one child many religious folk would go on to claim that it is the work of god that saved this child yet they do not ask why he decided to kill all the other children? edited to ad, I shouldn't have written.... "mould their figure of god to suit them" ....God can mean different things to different people. I meant more in terms of specific mainstream religions where people tend to cherry pick the best parts and ignore the not so great parts. spade 224
My parents are now retired but were officers in the sally army, running in both hostels and local corps (churches) and I was brought up going to Sunday school/church. Quite enjoy an odd tipple so sally army wasn't for me but I have looked at and attended other Christian churches. Is God real? Yes I believe he is even though I no longer attend any church on a regular basis. Like Gnash says I too don't think you have to go to church to connect, in fact, I feel more of a connection when I'm out on my own with a dog or 2. I would say I have faith rather than I've got religion.

Tam, that's hardly bloody empirical evidence is it. It's nothing more than an insight into the human condition. I've seen some stunningly beautifull things, it always makes me stand in awe and leaves me feeling quite humble and satisfied with my insignificant little part in such a fascinating and beautifull world, but never once have I thanked God for it. Every ounce of my intelligence and dare I admit to it Instinct tells me that there is no God. I'm an Atheist if there ever was one, that's not to say I don't feel the same as you when I see something beautifull.
albert64 1,882
now i've never really believed in god but never minded them that have but 3yrs ago i was in scotland playing golf me and 15 of my mates having a great time, the sun beating down on the 14th tee at brighouse bay life could'nt be better, when my pal gives me an energy bar, took a bite and spat it out as it tasted bitter, now i've eaten these things all my life as i've always trained, by the 16th i was f*cked i'd gone into anophlaxic shock, luckily an ambulance came within 5 mins but they had to work like f*ck to get tubes and stuff into me. the doctors and nurses at dumfries and galloway saved my life twice that night as i went into secondary shock, but believe me i prayed to god to let me see my wife and kids and have done a couple times since, petty things that used to get on my tits dont matter much now as long as i'm around to make sure my kids grow to be decent young people that'll do me
