underpowered airgun

Recommended Posts

hello

my webley blackhawk air rifle is only shooting just over 7ft/lbs (465fps with H&N feild target trophy) it is only 2 year old shot about 1300-1500 pellets. i have shot rabbits with it shot in the head about 20ft(scared to go any longer but itll group inside an inch out to about 30metres) but i would like to increase the power and sustain the level of accuracy? is this possible by replacing the spring?

I've noticed myself with my own rifles that the latest batches of H&Ns do reduce the power, I've used H&N FTT for a long time in most of my rifles but have noticed a significant drop in power lately, some as much as 1.5ftlbs.

My advice would be to try a different pellet that gives you the same degree of accuracy and see how you get on.

hi bud take notice of marksman as pellets will affect your power some will put your rifle over and some lower it all comes down to what your rifle likes and not what you like what will be good in one rifle will not be in another take it to your l.g.shop and ask him or her to put some diffrent kind of pellets through her to see if it brings your power up then you are safe as the gun shop owner will not let you leve with a rifle that is over powerd by law hope this helps atvbmac

looking on the net the webley black hawk is a 11.5 ftlbs gun so 7ftlbs is low power.your mainspring or piston seal may need to be replaced .If the gun once shot fine at 11.5 .This is the most obvious solutions but there could be others. The main spring being broken is my first guess.

thanks for the quick replies! i am not worried if it goes over 12ft/lbs as its on an FAC anyway ill have a look at the spring tomorrow when i get some time,

how do you now if the piston seal needs changed?

would increasing the ft/lbs effect the accuracy?

The seal will look damaged .ripped or torn up from bad fitment or wear or burned up from dieseling because of to much oil in gun .[did the gun smoke alot when it was new.?]The spring may have collapsed also .If the gun shoots at 11.5 consistently long range accuracy will improve .Making that gun shoot over 11.5 may make it less accurate and damage the guns parts .

If he is in Ireland, he does not have a ft lb limit!
