Dachshunds for work?

Hi i have made some previous posts about "What is the best ground working dog" and the respond that people gave is "Patterdales and Lakelend mainly and a few for the JRT however no one even mentioned Dachshund/Teckel. Why is this? and dose anyone of THL work them or have any previous experience with them?

Dachshunds are only show dogs over here, a few people hunt there relatives teckels though

i think i've seen some posts in the terrier section from a german guy that digs / hunts with daschunds, he had a fair size pack of em.

surprised me at the time, never heard of em being used in the UK though.

I had two I was digging to week in week out, for one season they served me well and I had very high hopes but they weren't made of the right stuff for this job so we parted company. I'm sure there are some good 'uns out there on the continent but I never had them in my kennels and I don't have room for shirkers.

I'll always be grateful for that single season we spent together they did me alright and put quite a few on the tally but it wasn't meant to be.

i dug some in hungary last year and they where ok but you have to be lucky to find a good one for earthwork ,, moost are used by weekend hunters (lady's) and blood trackers / roe deer hunters

There are some very usefull teckel around in Germany ( deutschen teckel club )

Bred for any Occasion.

They are the most versatile hunting dog I have owned.

A lot of bottle in a wee dog.

I have one brilliant blood dog for deer heart of a Lion, she's never been to ground ,but it's not for lack of trying on her behalf, stubborn animal, if you want to know more look for a book by John jeaneny, dogs for tracking deer he uses them in America the guy is top drawer in my opinion he has clearly studied his subject,

Teckels are mostly used by Stalkers in the UK for tracking, but I`ve seen a few vids of them being worked to ground

 

Not too popular over here cause there are better dogs for the job

lads you just cant compare hounds to terriers the teckel is a hound i hunt a few there good for beating cover you can dig to them no bother but if quarry wants to go it goes , if you want a dog to beat cover & get a handy dig there the job but if you want to join the elite get a ******** terrier

A mate of mine has a kc registered mini smooth haired sausage hound and she bolted a few foxes last season. Gonna try her again this time and see if we can get a dig over her. They are never gonna be a digging dog but it is a good feeling when you get a result with something a little different.

Ive dug to lots of teckels (fox & badger). For use as a digging dog they would not suit me.

 

Ive also hunted boar fox deer etc with them,, this in my opinion is their true vocation. Get the hairs standing up when they open up in the blackberry.

I think a lot of times when you're going outside the proven ground workers especially in your country .... I would have to ask , why ? It seems kind of like trying to re-invent the wheel. A lot of fur has been collected thanks to Patts,Lakeies and JRT's . Let it be.
