Rught lads, after persuading my mother to let me have a few chickens in the old shed at the bottom of the garden. Its a eight foot by six foot shed what i want to convert to house three or four chickens, iv got a few ideas for runs etc. I was just wondering what kind i coulg get, cocks are out of question due to neighbours etc. I want something to look at really and not mind a few eggs while im at it, any info appreciated

many thanks

It's a bit of a broad question, that one, mate. Why not ask Google for Poultry Breeds. Take a look as as many birds as ye can. Get ye favorite eye pleasers listed. Then come back and ask what experiance others here have had of them. Otherwise, it's a bit like asking which girl to marry. So very many to choose from and everyones idea will likely be differant. 'Mind you; If ye had a short list of girls to marry, asking who here's had experiance of them could be a bit of a can or worms!

type in meadowsweet birds on net, might have a dealer local to you, most of their birds are good layers, not very fancy althought the bluebells are definately differant to look at, the larger white ones were very docile and tame. Finer looking whites with almost fan tails were very flighty but lovely to look at (used to roost in trees rather than shed! birds are usually 5-12 pounds so not cheap, but they are healthy birds. Some birds you can get cheaper in auctions can often have viruses etc. Once you get something like microplasma in your flock, you might as well make a big curry! youll never get rid of it! Hope this helps!

Sorry sw thought there should have been someone who covered your area from them, might be worth giving their main number a call, they often have new agents , might be someone around your neck of the woods. - Other than that get one of the mags like smallholding or practical poultry, they often have lists of breeders in the classifieds
