kenny14 656
I've never come close to 100 in a night with any of my Dogs, and I've had quite a few over the years I've been in the game, and in fact I've had some years when Rabbits were scarce and 100 for the year was good going! But reading this topic has got me wondering how many people, like me have had some of their most memorable nights when the numbers caught haven't been high but the Dog has given it's all and you've seen some excellent runs where the quarry has proved just too good or had that little bit of luck and escaped. 1 Quote Link to post

iceman001979 1,316
Folk who say, i'd rather catch seven hard rabbits then 100 easier ones etc, that's just bollocks. Any dog man would be buzzing like a fridge, seeing their dog lift over 100 rabbits. Its not just the running and catching, in terms of physical demands, but also just having the mental strength to go out again and again and again on rabbits, every minuite or so for hours, without the dog sickening. For this kind of thing to happen requires a number of factors coming together, obviously the land, and conditions and rabbit density plays a big part, but you cant deny that it takes a special kind of dog to handle the repetative nature of it. And not just that, but to do the ton, after doing a very good bag the night before, and still be lamping the third night as well, its just great. The biggest issue is that everyone wants to do it or to beat it, and so when it comes on the internet like this, you sign the death warrent of that land. The next couple of years will see a shit ton of folk visiting those places and soon enough it wont be possible to do those numbers anymore. At least its a bit harder to get to, or it would be like the dales, quick sharp, with everyone and their brother hitting it to try to get the numbers. Aye, its great to tell folk, but i think if it was me, i'd stick to telling the folk i know, and wouldnt foe the life of me, stick the location etc up on THL. That just proper fucks it, and what's gained? Listen if am saying l would rather catch over 7 local over 100 its because for the 15 years l have lamped the local land l never been able to beat it.Of course anyone would love to see there dog do a ton and for just one dog to it is some going. But most people would rather see there dog catch 20 hard ones that 100 rabbits that have never seen a dog, a lamp but everyone is entitled to there own say.As l have said fair play to the men and dogs I understand (sort of) your point. But to be honest, however 'easy' the rabbits are, it still takes one hell of a dog to keep going out and back in with a hundred and one bunnys, i think a lot of dogs would just go off the boil when faced with that kind of repetition. And to do it on 'night two', when night one, you did what would be considered an out standing bag, is very impressive. Aye, i would love to do twenty local, as that would be an outstanding performance for here, but i would have to admit, i wouldnt chose it over watching my dog run and catch over one hundred rabbit in a single night, its once in a life time stuff. Even doing 100 retrives is bloody impressive. Your right and l agree for one dog to go out and back 101 is some going and must be a lot training to put in for dog to do that over and over .Everyone always talks about the dogs but sometimes its the man behind the dog that makes that dog 1 Quote Link to post

How do you know its better to catch 7 than 100?????????? You not getting what am saying most l caught local was 7 rabbits and l have never beat it and that was with my 1st lucher 15 years ago and before l stop hunting or before they start putting houses on that local spot l would like to beat it.So is you offer me one my dogs doing 100 or beating that 7 l take beating the 7 but l say it agin takes some dog to catch 101 rabbits.Would like to know the breeding off the dog that caught 39 on golf course because thats some going Quote Link to post

dazzz 421
A hundred on the right ground at the right time of year with uneducated rabbits is to my mind more than possible and well done to the guys for getting off their arse. after our 1st nights lamping i got up and cooked us a big brecky, i said to both lads ive got one question you've seen the numbers you've seen the land cana ton be done with one dog........................................they said no and i agreed................ that night it was done!!!!!!!!!!!! the 39 my dog caught on the 1st night IMO was as hard as the 62 she did the following night,,,,,,everthing just clicked into place mate you wouldnt believe the bloke and his dog has it was unbelievable, i was doing a cercuit that allways ended at the van so i could drop off my 12 or 15 rabbits he was bringing back 40 now im no weakling i played rugby for 15 years but that was just beyond belief and that is the truth Quote Link to post
dazzz 421
IT looks like the lamping is becoming a numbers game,i think it is more for the ego of the owners rather than the working of the dogs,if lads were to do the big numbers and kept more quite about it ,i believe more respect be given, purely because it does not look like a dig at the lads that may do less and where on this post have we fecking bragged you complete fecking BELLEND!!!!! 2 Quote Link to post
