Hob&Jill 258
Hello. Went to Homebase yesterday to get a new Jigsaw and couldnt help noticing that they had a 6x4 shed for £99, not bad in my eyes. So I was thinking I could buy the shed and convert it . It has a perspex window in it, would that need to be changed? Just wondering if it would get too hot.........Could change it to mesh? I was thinking have the shed then have a run attached next to it, understand? It would be in a very shady place too. Good idea? Would the window need changing? Guest Ditch_Shitter
Hold on, mate. Dare I ask what this shed's made of? Only I reckon, for under a ton, it'll be Larch Lap, right? If so, sorry but, I really wouldn't trust one to hold ferrets. Not for long. They tend to blow and bow and ye'd be forever watching for weaknesses in the panals where ye ferrets might force an escape. Find a shed building factory and check out a 6x4 in Ship Lap. Last ye a life time Quote Link to post
Madcowz 0
Or... buy some 11mm OSB2 board (£10.45 for a 2.4 x 1.2m) and shutter off the inside. http://www.wickes.co.uk/icat/smosb /Mad Quote Link to post

stubby 175
although ditch's advice is correct, I think if thats a price that is in your budget, then go for it, but then budget maybe another £60 on making it ferret proof as already stated 8x4 boards make a good linning but wood suggest cutting the bottom 6" off then fixing it back on, as mice do like to make the cavity a nest site, being able to remove the bottom 6" at a later date is gonna save time if that happens, if your going to add an outside at a later date, pre cut the hole for a 4" soil pipe, then blank if off using an offcut of your ply, again save's hard work at a later date with ferrets living there maybe a 3' high peice of ply fixed on the lower part of the door opening stops them running out as you open the door, but can be stepped over on entering by yourself, I also then have an inner mesh door above my step over bit, so the main door can be left open in day time without fear of losing any as for your window, maybe mesh it for the inside and then battern the perspex so it can be opened or closed saves rain blowing in a meshed only window keep an eye out for road works(drainage repairs) thats where all my bendable tubing came from probably loads more people could add Quote Link to post
darren m 1
just tidying up my old shed , i was wondering about the windows also take em out or leave them . also wondered , will ferrets be able to climb up inside the shed worried that they will get onto the shelves and dive bomb each other . thanks Quote Link to post
borderboy 80
i would mesh the inside of the windows and make it so that the actual perspex bit will slide in when its cold and out when its hot .... Quote Link to post
ferret15 0
hi i have a 8 x 6 shed converted i have lined the roof to stop the ferrets squezing through the gaps and because mine is then separated down the centre i have two courts in one with stable like doors on each and a slight recess in side the door to store beding etc this way i can have the door open to let in lots of light air etc i would put up picture but my comp is not letting me not sure why but there r pictures here http://ukmsnusers.com/ferretsofthejohnsons if you would like to see Quote Link to post

stubby 175
yup, they will climb, to places you never thought possible, stuck an old kitchen cupboard up high in my court, and on more that one occassion caught my jill "foxy" curled up asleep inside, "how the bloody hell" so one day, sat and waited, should have video'd it as it was like something from mission imposible, she climbed onto her nest box, leapt a good 2ft to a door thats on its edge as cladding, just grabbing it with her front paws, shimmeying along this to the rabbit (live catch) trap on a shelf, hauling herself up this then laying on her back on the shelf, using her front paws to grip bottom of cupboard door and forcing it open... I could have got £250 from "you'vre been framed " for that Quote Link to post
