I'm one of these extroverts who LOVES judging !! I must admit, I prefer judging Whippets, as there is a "standard" to work to, rather than with Lurchers, where it is simply the Judges preference ! Of

Nothing new about judges picking their mates/dogs they've bred/dogs with reputations etc etc. :whistling:

What really pisses me off is when the judge picks the "cute little girl with the bandy legged, prick-eared, fat, undershot pet" at a suppsedly "working" Terrier show.

Cheers, D.

dont judge any more, but did a few smaller shows some years ago. on the couple of occasions when mates turned up they both came and said hello, and said they wouldn't put me in an awkward position so didnt enter their dogs. i said that it wasnt awkward for me as i knew they would take my decisions well, but both said that it might look wrong to onlookers if they won. fair play to them. i was lucky enough to serve as steward under some very knowledgeable and experienced judges, and learned a lot about the art of judging, and proper conformation. i suggest that if anyone is asked to judge a show then decline the offer unless you really know what you are talking about in terms of conformation/health/fitness/general condition of a dog, this way it is quite simple to explain why one dog has been put up over another. true, that is not always enough to pacify every moaner, but at least you will be able to justify your decision.

What really gets my goat is those show punters who contact the organisers undermining the integrity of the judges, surely if they know the judge don't like their type of dog then don't go to the show and please don't start a witch hunt to have the guy removed, remember he's probably given up a day and in some cases used a load of fuel to get there, all we end up with is the lunatics running the asylum.

So what if a Judge has MANY friends in the show scene ? Should he/she not be allowed to judge ? Or should his/her integrety not be taken into consideration ?? There are Judges who would rather fall out with "friends" than corrupt their integrity; and frankly, without these genuine judges, the show scene would be f****d !!

Cheers.

spot on, most judges are asked because theyve been around a while, had a few dogs, made a few pals, maybe won a few shows, bred a litter or two and sold the pups to a variety of people. i have friends, mates, acquaintence's call them what you will in just about every county in the uk, most judges will be the same simply because of being around lurchers, racing and showing for decades gaining the experience and respect that got them into judging in the 1st place
