Which lurcher mix is the most likely to have a hatred of fox?

I have a pure whippet which hates them to the point of insanity.Even the smell of a fox has her hackles rising. She doesn't like cats either but they don't drive her to distraction like foxes do.

I would imagine it would be the mixes with terrier blood in them, but I would be interested in your replies.

most dogs have a hatred of foxs and pre ban this was used to good effect, however nowadays were all confined to rats and rabbits

I wouldn't allow my bitch to mix it with a fox even it it was legal. It would be a long protracted affair. Cruel on both the dog and the fox.

I would and i do let my dogs nail them theres nothing long about it a couple of mins and its over also theres nothing cruel about it . its hunting at its best

alot of whippets will go full on to foxes, i had a none ped whippet bitch in 90 , and where they were run they were males there 35lb that would do them. They were very game little dogs, strong little buggers . Not the kind of dog of choise for that job, but put back to bullxgrey would be spot on.

i use diffrent bull x for diffrent jobs horses for courses

In my experience you can often tell if a dog is going to switch on to this type of quarry. Other times it's quite often an event or set of circumstances that flips the switch....this can go either way but the ones that develop an antipathy toward fox usually carry it with them to the grave.

They do mate. I've seen a few pre ban that genuinely despised them. Just like some dogs hate cats some hate foxes.

I agree with you in the same sense that a dog doesn't hate rabbits or hares any more than any predator stalking prey

Yes rabbits and hares are seen as prey by the dog. But a dog which genuinely hates foxes or cats acts completely differently.

It's a bit like an agressive dog straining and itching to get at another dog.

See i think they enjoy the rush and feeling of energy release from tackling them, but i wouldnt say its a hatred. I don't know, just a thought.

 

My dog loves the smell, you can see when he hits the scent, he goes up a gear, same with deer.
