Carraghs Gem 1,675
Just after talking to my vet... Got a quote for castrating the 4 hobs and spaying the jill.. what I want to know is there any ferret specific problems with anaesthetic... My vet hinted there might be? Quote Link to post
joe14 98
If your ferret is healthy and your vet is experienced with ferrets you should be fine. There is always a risk of them not coming round from anesthetic thats why you have to sign a form before taking them in. Sounds like hes trying to put you off spaying them or he isnt confident in doing it. Or he might be just being honest. Ive had a few jills done and theyve been fine. I tend to worry about jills more than hobs as they are smaller lol. Theyre not under long at all, its only a small operation. Edited September 17, 2012 by joe14 Quote Link to post
The one 8,481
Theres always a worry with anesthetic and ferrets being small animals the risk is a wee bit greater Quote Link to post
Carraghs Gem 1,675
Being a farm vet hes only spayed 1 ferret but does a lot of cats.. Think I might just castrate the boys in spring when their bits drop as im not sure if I will keep this jill yet Quote Link to post

Carraghs Gem 1,675
Havent found a small animal practice within an hours drive that isnt full of substandard vets who are only in the job for the money last time I used them they killed my dog with their stupidity. My local vet has put animals back together that I thought were pts cases He may not have experience with stinkers but hes the best vet in the area and the cheapest. Always feel guilty when im paying the bill Quote Link to post
