Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
Well after a week away was keen to have a crack at the woodies most of the havest has been done barr some wet areas of wheat and the beans but still amounts of stubbles making it hard to pin them down . But RECCE a fair few very early 630am on a wheat stubble still with bales on it couple of hundred accross two fields. So done the usual 1000 mile RECCE accross wilts oxon and gloucestershire boarders with a few on each stubble so nowt exciting so plumbed to return to my very first field about a mile from home .after 150 mile RECCE. Setup at 1230 with only pushing off 20 or so but I know this field well and the flights are always strong and back in the late 90s when this very field was peas I shoot nearly 6500 birds of this field alone from drilling to ploughing in late sept . So with just the decoys out and three bales rolled together the action was slow at first got two bobbers up I can safely say that whirlys have had there day and find the birds alot less spooked without it. So the numbers where being added the birds gained in numbers with birds moving from distance out the woods and started to commit to the decoy from a mile away . Shot some amazing high birds passing over and missed the standard sitters accounted for a fair few left and rights had a black and gold 8 in the first barrel and 32grams 6 in the 2nd . The birds where in the sky all the time as I shot one I would see another beating up the wind towards the deeks without a care in the world and being draw by seeing its mate fold from my shot to deeks. I cannot stress enough the importance of trying to kill as many as possable per cartridge as I find when birds have been shot badly it spooks them for them never to return. Still I had a cracking 4 hour stint that ended suddenly for no reason they simple switch off . 99 one short ATB Cookie Quote Link to post
