Lamping up the dales

Recommended Posts

Normally we go to this place in the yorkshire dales for an overnight stay, that way making the most of the journey. However this time me and Russ took Xena and his meg for just a few hours lamping. This place has trebled in the numbers of rabbits so now its not sport, its pest control as the bunnies are causing havoc up there. This is due to rabbits coming off the neighbouring land that the farmer will not let anyone on it, even DEFRA have washed their with him.

Anyway, a good early session of the season. Got 42 in the end, dont know which dog caught what, but Russ reckoned 75% was Xena's, but i didn't care as the way she was working was spot on. Although she did play up at the start of the night, with trying to hunt up(trying too hard i think). But after 2/3 catches, she was in her element. Great retrieves over walls, fences & gates. Good runs up the beam and still showed that there was plenty left in the tank before the battery died on the lamp. Yes the rabbits were in plenty, but it was the way the dogs went about it that that impressed me most. So it wasn't the numbers that made the night, but seeing Xena step up another level.

sorry about the pic folks, but Russ is shite on the camera. This was the best of a really bad bunch of pics.

well done lads. sounds like theres some good hunting trips to be had there in the near future. in one respect its nice to have a spot next door that no ones allowed on as it will keep numbers up for you.

but on the other hand it would be nice to jump the wall/fence and get on the neibouring farm for a hunting session.

the idea was to jump a fence or two and maybe "have a look next door"....but wasn't needed. next door feeds our permission with so many rabbits we dont need wander about.

thanks for the comments lads
