Presa Canario x Saluki Bull Grey for stud??

Recommended Posts

I own an 18 month old Dog and I am cosidering putting him up for stud duties.

I would appreciate some advice on whether this would be an interesting proposition for anyone on this site. His Dam was full Presa Canario( Black Brindle) from J7 working lines. The Dog was a working Saluki Bull Greyhound (Blue) from high quality Welsh stock.

He is 27" TTS and weighs 40 kg's lean. All black with white chest flash. Very strong and quick, jumps 5 bar gates for fun. He has a really excellent nose. He has quite a lot of Presa features but he has thrown more to the Bull Grey in my opinion.

He was bought as pet but has started to take rabbits without any training or encouragement and is very game. Very sociable and friendly with all dogs and people. Easy dog to live with. Excellent guard as you would expect.

I think he would add size and power to many working lines. Was not going to stud him but feel it would be a waste of some great DNA. I was thinking he would make really impressive pups if put over a Bull Grey or Greyhound bitch??

Anyway, I'm interested in peoples opinions good or bad.

Cheers

Most of the bullcrosses about these days are pure shite because people are willing to breed from anything with a big head, they look hard as f**k at the shows in the summer but in reality they are tot

mate you obviously don't get out hunting much so why act like you know what dogs can and can't do??? you're saying his dogs must be impressive because it's size and it can catch rabbits I know of dogs

Flat out in the open daytime 9 times out of 10 the rabbit will make it to cover, but if it keeps turning the bull will sometimes get it as he'll almost cut it off instead of following.   Like to ad

For a start only a mug would consider using an 18 month old dog, how much work has the dog actually seen? Impressive pups as in what? Size, looks?

Theres some long lines of tested bullx's out there so why use something that is untried/untested that can't produce any better than whats already available? I'm sure if you advertise him at stud in the CMW some idiots will line your pockets.....goodluck

There are already to many lurchers sat in rescues of all ages from puppy to adults offering a 18 month old dog to stud is crazy when the dog is only picking up rabbits on the odd occasion there are a lot off ppl on this site that have fantastic working dogs bull x from great working lines there are ppl

That will pay u for a stud and that will only to line there pockets by selling the pups as from the best working lines you can find and these pups will end up being In The rescues because they didn't do what the man said they would it's a vicious circle .

Maybe get out with some guys that work dogs and really put the dog to work and see what it can really do if it's above par in 2 years time ( catching all quarry in good fashion ) then and only then offer him up for stud . Now don't get me wrong he sounds a very Nice dog and could possibly but some size and strength into a good line but it needs to be proven working dog and excel in its field atb with him pal and keep us informed on his progress

Dont breed this dog, it's a pup for one and could be a rubbish working dog...bagging a few bunnies means nothing both my American bulldogs could do that. Work it properly for a good 3/4 seasons like had been said already then maybe think about it. There's dogs out there already doing the job that could add size into a line.

Oh right i see, you mean in cover. Still, bet they were happy with themselves.

Cunners, do you mean your dog has had them bunnies from cover aswell? Cos if its in the open and they didnt have mixi, then id say your dog has massive potential. Not that i know what im talking about really as far as rabbits are concerned but i have a mate with 2 presa's and they are absolutely massive, powerful, big boned and very muscular powerful dogs, similar in size to a big american bulldog actually, so if you have a dog thats half presa, and catches bunnies in the open, you must be on to something

i wouldnt care if his AB's were the fastest, most intelligent and agile AB's on the planet, they'd seriously struggle to run a rabbit
