silentshot1 206
Hi All I need something slightly 'smarter' than my surplus DPM stuff that i currently wear on the farm, for a possible new Airgun only permission/ project. I was considering buying the Jack Pyke hunter jacket and trousers in Woodland Green: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jack-Pyke-Woodland-Hunters-Jacket-Trousers-Suit-Set-/400197932696?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Sports_Clothing_LE&var=&hash=item5d2da7d698#ht_881wt_1037 Was wondering what any of you who use Jack Pyke stuff thought of them? Seems a reasonable price and you get what you pay for, but would it do for the winter if I layered up, or are there better at a similar price? Thanks for any advice. Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,815
Mostly cheap shit IMO HTH Cheers, D. Quote Link to post
tegater 789
I use a Jack Pyke dog handlers vest for ferreting, as it has loads of pockets for nets etc, and I cannot grumble, as it does the job. As for waterproofs, I am not sure, but I am sure you get what you pay for. Quote Link to post
walshie 2,804
I needed a pair of boots quick and bought JP ones. Despite the poor reviews, (touch wood) they have served me perfectly for the last 18 months. Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I have a full Jack Pyke English woodland hunter outfit, it is warm, too warm, had to have the jacket zip undone in the snow we had earlier in the year, way too hot! I think the DPM pattern is better! Edited September 12, 2012 by secretagentmole Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
The other problem with jack pyke gear is that its a bit noisy when youre sneaking through bushes or dense woodland. I've got a lot of gorse bushes up death valley and it sounds like a yard of calico being torn when its scraping against brambles etc. I also think that english oak is a better disruptive pattern than woodland, although neither are as good as flectarn or dpm. At the end of the day though, camo patterns are much the same if youre moving slowly and quietly so If you like a certain pattern then go for it. The JP gear will also leak in heavy rain (well mine does) so thats something else to bear in mind. Personally, I rate the swanndri coats above all else, theyre warm and silent cos theyre pure wool but not water proof, and if you can find one of the NZ army issue ones, theyre in dpm too. pianoman 3,587
Hiya mate, how ya been? I agree with Wurz on this one. I have a pair of Jack Pike waterproof trousers in Woodland cammo. But, there's no fly! They don't breath and you bloody boil in them. In the rain they are clammy. The stitching comes loose and breaks. I've left the resultant hole where it is because that's the only ventilation my goolies get! You'd be far better off with a set of DPMs or Flecktarn. Rabbits have poor monochrome eyesight that relies on movement to see where a threat comes from. That's why nature gave them an early warning system of a pair of ears that can hear you a mile away and a nose that can sniff you out just as far. As long as you're silent, still, and upwind of them, a disruptive cammo pattern works fine. All the best. Simon Quote Link to post
Daz 7 563
As Simon and John have said DPM, MTP, or Flecktarn are best no rustling and for water proofs DPM Goretex. All good Army gear works best for Me and it's cheaper, the only jack pyke stuff i use is the Sniper suit as its a Mesh combo with leaves stitched on and because its Mesh keeps You cool in summer and protects from Midges, So i use it alot for Flighting with the shotgun as You get quite hot and sweaty. atvb Daz 7 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
And hot and sweaty increases your odour on the breeze.... Not exactly the best situation. Quote Link to post
Wxm 1,638
i use the mesh no pockets but you have your own bottoms under, and when its hot you can have shorts and tshirt on and its nice and light http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JACK-PYKE-LIGHTWEIGHT-MESH-CAMO-SUIT-HUNTING-SHOOTING-/400153743286?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Sports_Clothing_LE&var=&hash=item5d2b058fb6 Quote Link to post
