Hi folks,my grandad died in jan of this year, and while cleaning his house out,i found all his stuff from the 2nd world war like his dog tags and demob jacket and other bits and bobs.I found a piece of paper which i think he got when the war was over,it says something about the medals he earned and if he wanted them to go to a address on the paper, but the paper as a stain over the address and i can not make it out.

I would like to get his medals so i can put them in a picture frame with a photo of him to hang on the living room wall.So if anybody knows of an address could they please let me know. Thanks Bigeddie. :victory:

i think you have to get in touch with the ministry of defence medal office and they will send you forms to fill in about your grandad such as full names nick names what regiment and i think army paybook numbers.my dad tried to get his grandads but he didnt no half the questions so my dads dad did it instead but it took some time well worth it though.good luck all the best

Failing that, Eddie; Does it list his medals, mate? Only most will likely be Campaign medals. Those are rather sadly readily available in many 'Junk' shops and from more specialist outlets. Spot of Brasso and away ye go.

But the actual Ribbons are as important. No problemmo there. Military Tailors & Outfitters can supply those, all brand spanking and nice.

If ye want to ~ and have the details so ye can ~ go that route, a swift scratch about on Google should soon see ye sorted

Best of luck :good:

Eddie,

Was he Royal or Merchant Navy, Army or Air Force? All 3 Services have their own medal offices where you can simply make contact and with permission (from his widow or next of kin) and they will release his Service documents which will hold all of the campaign and long service awards that he received or was entitled to. If the medals were never issued then they will still be holding them for him, if they were issued then you can get suitable replacements including the correct ribbons from places like wms@wprcmedals.com rdhmedals@aol.com .

His ID number will hold the key to his military stuff - it is stamped on his dog tags - use that for your correspondences along with his surname and rank/trade/regiment if you have it.

Hope this helps,

OTC
