mr scent 665
You will not get much more athletic skill and fitness than hurling the speed and intesesity it's played at is unreal no rest for any player your on your toes at all times easy no you have never played the game to state you prefer athletic combative ability as hurling tops the bill when you want just that try roll a ball up on to a hurl and put it over the bar from 70 yards out then talk about skill unless you have played the game you have not got a clue Fair comment....never seen it let alone played it......i,ll f**k off i think i only made comment because the chap started banging on about football and i couldnt understand why.......each to their own and all that in fairness the first comment about soccer was that hurling is totally different to soccer ,you were the one who started harping on about soccer on a hurling thread pal

JohnGalway 1,043
We were in Cork in 2001 (I think) and it was the semi or final of the hurling championship. Cork Vs Munster (again, memory ain't too good ) The atmosphere in the city centre was really good but typical Irish, one team played in yellow and blue and the other in blue and yellow Cheers, D. If one team was in yellow and blue and the other in blue and yellow I'd hazard a guess Clare were playing Tipp! Pretty much only two provinces of the four have much hurling, those being Munster and Leinster. Galway is in Connacht and we used to be in a very unfair position of having no competitive games until I think the quarter final stage of the All Ireland so we went out - a lot, first game. But now we've been put in with the Leinster teams and I think that will benefit Galway immensely having proper competitive games. I think Antrim, in Ulster, are also in Leinster now. kilkenny arnt the same without dj carey Very true, though I often cursed him He was a special player. I did not know what the game was till i seen this thread.. but i must say they are pretty skillfull sport's men and how they don't get seriously hurt is a miracle the way they fling them stick about.. There's a word in the GAA Millet "schmozzle", basically it means a bunch from one team and a bunch from another team pretend to fight each other, a bit like girls fighting I'd say the two most common ways to get hurt is a) the ref isn't looking and you're marking a dirty fecker accidental smack going for a ball. Galway for the win in the replay

Greengrass 205
They take their hurling very seriously in Kilkenny, I had a mate play county for them a while back. I don,t know if it's true or not but I,ve heard it said that when a family have a son born in Kilkenny they get the baby blessed by a priest while it's in it's cot with the priest using a Hurley to bless it in the hope that the wee one will grow up and play for the county. After seeing firsthand how football is a religion in Kerry I wouldn't be at all surprised if hurling was treated the same in KK
