Got 2 young ones here that I'm hoping will go this year. The bitch will be 2 end of oct and the dog will 2 in April. They just got a bit of ratting and flushing and a few rags at shot ones last season as they weren't ready for anything strenuous. The bitch started going through a couple of earths at the end of the season but nothing was home. This year will be the year I hope. For the bitch at Least. If I can get the 2 of them going to ground working then iv got my own wee breeding to carry on with but time will tell.

Nice to know that somebody's keeping them going mate  are they off working parents then or did you take a gamble on a non working litter? if i could get hold of a pup off working lines id like to try and keep a line of my own in the future to along with my blacks dogs atb with the young ones for the season

I would love to see the border used again as 100% digging dog again! I'm sure there are some that are use them properly but fear they might not be that many left! I was speaking to a fella last night and he sells his border pups for £500 each and studs his dog out for £250 a time , and get two studs a month!

same here marshman! id love to keep and work a line of them myself one day but getting hold of a couple pups from working stock to start with will be easier said than done probably. it's prices like that that put me off buying in a few pups to try as its alot of money to be wasting if nothing was to come of them

@ born to dig. True mate how can a working man afford a border pup when there's others out there a lot cheaper and better. A lot more proper lads would keep them if they was the right money and there for might be a lot more workers. I suppose it answers the stud fees question on the other thread!

My young bitch is from working stuff ( so I was told anyway) the dog isn't although he has the same sire as my oldest bitch. She entered and was dug to at 13 mnth but left her to late to take a litter from so I took a gamble with getting a dog from her lines to put with my young bitch ( if they both turn out anyway)

Agree with you 100% marshman, pups off whats left should be shared between the real working border enthusiasts free of charge and studs given out free of charge to get the breed back on its feet! and obi2 a shame you was to late to breed your old bitch, hopefully your 2 young ones will turn out good for you for you to start a line of working borders
