Hedges.......

It was an early start yesterday, Micky had suggested going to a nice bit of land down his way he had been out with the air rifle the evening before and had 8 and said there was a few about.

It would be Mickys pups first time out with the ferrets at 8 mnths he's turning into a big lad but was well behaved all day I had my 2 ( jack russel and Beddy/Whip) Mick also had Steve his bull x. First stop a hedge between a horse paddock and a big arable field, the jrt marked well so we set purse nets in the runs and on the most accesible holes and set stop nets along the hedge. 3 ferrets in and quick rumbling, we missed 1 and caught 3 from this first bit, we had a mooch around and bella marked again in a small copse on a ground bury of around 12 holes, we netted what we could get at and split the copse with 2 stopnets to stop runs to he next bury. 2 ferrets in and a quick bolt resulted in a rabbit in the stopnet, pinned by the pup.

We picked up and walked along the hedge rows one area showed a lot of signs of activity and the dogs confirmed by marking strongly, the hedge was alot easier here with a bank at the bottom meaning netting was easier. We set up the same way, purse nets and stopnets, it didn't take long for the rabbits to start moving, a couple were taken on my side quickly before Micky had a couple of half growns bolt which were put into the next door hedge for another day. We made our way along the hedge and including the little ones had 9 out of it and we missed 4.

It was now 1-30pm and Mick had to go to look at another bit of land at 3pm so we called it a day, it was nice to be on a couple of hedges again even though theyre a bit heavy still and a 13 rabbits ( 11 kept) was ok too......... all in all another good morning
