Lures for salmon & trout..

IMO if a salmon is In the fettle to take a lure/fly then it will probably take any of the common lures/flys, it's more to do with right place right time..

Don't forget the good old devon minnow, i haven't used one for year's but they were deadly on the right water.

We fished the devon minoe in high water and just let it roll round with the odd turn of the reel! there was some big fish caught with them.

Rooster tails !! Trout and salmon can't help but nail rooster tails. Hell, most fish can't for that matter.

I was given one of those white ones last season, tried it a few times and never had a touch on it. Maybe just bad luck. I think if you have faith in a lure of fly you seem to fish better, the ally shrimp is probably one of the best known salmon flies but i have tried them off and on for years and never even had a pull. I would not put one on now. Some other anglers i know cant go wrong with them.

Thanks for posting the pic. I've never really had luck with bright colors . I almost always stick with the darker colours have better luck. I don't even own a white one I don't think. Mepps are great too.

thanks for the links aaron .. actually owned a few of these when i was younger ( always got afew with starter kits) never knew what they where called , cant recall ever catching any fish with them .cheers :thumbs:
