lamping the right or wrong way

i once remember making plans to do abit of lamping with another fella i told him to meet me at a local spot when i turned up he was there with 3 more of his mate so i thought whats going on here was only ment to be me and him but i carried on into the first field they never shut up then to top it up they pulled out two grass joint and lite up blooded numpies i told them what did they think they where at and as i was only one with lamp i walked of told them to get lost and walked home some clowns about

The only time the lamp's on is for a quick reccy or when there's quarry in the beam, dog to heel (no slip/string/collars/leads) phone on silent, walk alone 99% of the time. I could think of nothing worse than being in the same county as some of the gimps and their ethics on this place let alone in their immediate company. I had an invite from a lad before and went out my dog was running a rabbit and he slipped his two dogs half way through the run so he could "see who's was the fastest" f*****g clown.

 

Gang lamping is definetly not for me I'm quite insular when it comes to Lurcherwork there are however a couple of lads who I would join anytime and vice versa but it takes a while to find decent men amongst the bellends in this game.

couldn't agree more leveller for the most part lamping is a one man one dog job, if it goes tits up theres no one else to blame, less chance of injuries with no double slipping, aggressive or poorly schooled dogs spoiling anothers retrieve / performance, less noise and more game on your own, no slip or lead is ideal (but this pup is doing my nut in a little to keen yet) i do have the odd night out in company and often enjoy it but by and large prefer my own company, the one tip i'd share is and remember i'm 6' 5", on sitters a lamp held low is a pathway of light with lots of ground and incidentals lit up....a lamp held high is a spotlight lighting up only the target.....bring on the wind

and also remember. if ya lurcher is running around like a dick looking for something. try getting to your knees and being at the same eye level/height as ya pooch. you'll then realise why your dog cant see the bunny. bit of advice for the newbies...have that on me..lol

just read the topic about HID lamp and some the post on it about keeping lamp on to open gates and so on

 

so ill tell you some the things i do while lamping

 

1 keep tight to the hedge so i place myself between the feeding rabbits and there warren

 

2 when i can i walk into the wind

 

3 if the dog misses the lamp goes of on till he is firmly in slip again

 

4 if the dog catches the lamp goes of till the dog retrives quarry and is firmly on slip

 

5 if im getting over fences or threw gates the lamp remains of i use my own eye sight

 

this is just some the things i do they work well for me

 

some the thing ive seen others the years witch i belive is not good fieldcraft

 

1 people lamping the dog not the quarry

 

2 lamp on every 2 seconds

 

3 walking right threw the middle of the field

 

4 once the dog misses the lamp goes on to another rabbit

 

5 when the dog makes a catch the lamp stays on the dog

 

6 lamp on getting over gates fences and going over very wet ground

 

im no expert but surely the so whats your views on the rights and wrongs of lamping

Was out with a lad last season, he was gready as f**k with the slips every thing he seen he slipped on even when I told him next slip was mine he waited till my dog was away the slips his, anyway we caught nout simply coz we seen nout due to after his dog ran in started pissing about so in stead of whistleing he used to shout the dog as loud as he could untill the dog came back.

 

Let's just say iv never been out with him since, the Doyle
