Lampalurcher 47
most of it they learn as get older or get fed up never catching much .il not let no one hold my dogs & i like to lamp, ive took folk out some kept grabbing lamp saying there when there was,nt it was dew on the grass haha lad I sumtimes go out with does that sends me mental I would do a quick scan see were things are then he grabs the lamp an near enough shouts there's one when there's twenty I've scanned over just before I get in position 1 Quote Link to post
broonball 38
i keep turning light away when rabbit gets to fence/cover etc...just for it to come flying back out. i will learn its just reaction.having a dimmer definitely helps when navigating obstacles, crossing streams etc.until you know your route 100% i think you need to light up some places.on a plus the pup has started to run the beam and is back pretty quick after a miss, still no retrieve but she comes closer each time. its a learning curve for us both. Haggis81 147
walking edge of park, turning light off when getting over gates, turning lamp off as soon as catch has been made. some parks i walk edge some I dont, getting over gates and obsticals with no light (farmer would go crazy if I kicked a hole in his rabbit fencing!! turning lamp off when caught is ok but depends on what quarry you after rules bla bla bla are ok but in thr real world you hsve it imprivise and work every bit of groundto the strenth and weekness, sometimes rules get binned!! South hams hunter 8,922
Everyone's different I think, I can be a f****r for using the lamp to much when walking as I've done a lot of road siding but am getting better lol. Hate people that walk to slow to keep up, don't like others lamping tbh and can't stand people that don't check the whole field before running the dog or starting to walk. People that walk in the middle of the field or just don't watch what's goin on. Quote Link to post
digger. 615
i agree it depends on what quarry u have to nock off lights.but its easy enuf if kept basic know the wind,if theres a moon get to dark spot shadow of tree,i always give 1 quick scan with the filter,if theres hills get to a position u wont lose the quarry but the wind is right if not walk away for another night, some wont slip on rabbits on the side of ditch iv takin alot this way i smoke myself but walking true field with smoke in hand no,no.1 of the biggest mistakes i think is not being in the right position or running something that you no you wont catch and ruining it for next hunt i could go on theres to many to mention i guess every man to himself 1 Quote Link to post

Chid 6,537
i also lamp when its my dog running and would/will let others lamp when its there dogs turn , only because i think your dog gets used to the way you lamp... my dog if its out on a run and i leave the light on when hes missed will hunt up , if you knock the light off he is straight back, also if you shake the lamp it seems to put him off , so thats why i lamp my own dog lol 1 Quote Link to post
