AndyKelly 251
just looking on fleabay this evening and at the different nets on the market. some purse nets are 15 meshes down and 13 meshes wide and am just wondering if people find this ample enough to catch a rabbit?. i was always taught at 3ft 6 the meshes at the widest point would be 17/18 made on a 2 and 1/8th board. now i can see how some net makers are selling there wares at a low price of £1.60 per spun poly purse net. i have always preferred a bigger net as i can dispatch the rabbit without having to extract it from the net. does anyone use these smaller nets and what do you think of them? do you have problems with the rabbits twisting the nets as they hit them and escaping cause a big bunny would fill the net and do 13/14 meshes wide have problems pulling up when a rabbit hits them? i know alot of people down south are using 4ft and over so are these smaller nets any good? 1 Quote Link to post

Tug 168
I have some smaller nets for tight spots where a big net might snag up, but the normal nets I make are 3'6" Quote Link to post
pie-eater 377
I make my nets 15 by 21 meshes on a 2 1/8 mesh board. I find this big enough and havent often lost a rabbit in these nets. I do also have a couple of giant purse nets which occasionaly come in useful. tegater 789
Start and finish with 9, out to 15, and 21 long. Ideal for what I need, and I always have a few 4/5 ft pokes. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Sometimes use small nets in thick, tight , hedges, where excessive net, might get caught up and i need it to purse without much draw. Quote Link to post

Same here somtimes its only just possiable to crawl in to set it ,then nets to big are tangled before you even set it.15 or 16 wide by 3ft 6 is plenty for me.However when i used to work sandy soil you would need big nets and a few giant ones for cave ins were 3or 4 passages meet. You are right, i find as well, that if the cover is tight, then the net needs to draw closed around the rabbit, within an inch or so, and a big net, needs more space to draw closed, often leaving a chance for bunny to escape. Although to be fair, a lot of the time, it doesnt matter what happens, as the dog is on it, as the nets closing. Quote Link to post
