overkill 28 Posted September 7, 2012 Report Share Posted September 7, 2012 there is no strait answer to this, personal preferance will also play a part. i use lakelands for example where as others would use patterdales etc. just because the dog is of a certain breed it doesnt mean they will work. yes the majority of terriers will kill the odd rat but digging with terriers is a different game. if you do your homework and look for a patterdale etc out of working parents with a certain amount of work and a pinch of luck you may be on a winner. you have to think long and hard about what you really want. a ratting dog and a digging dog are in two different leagues. a plummer is a good ratting dog also. do lots of homework read a few book and speak to others in the game. atb 1 Quote Link to post

I suggest you do a little bit of homework as to what proper terrier lads work in your area , and then make your own mind up! Me personally I prefer patterdales fell terriers call them what you like.
