dog coughing.

My 16 month old dog has been coughing after havin a run he's not doin it all the time he's eating drinking and playing with my terrier and seems well in himself my mates dog doing the same but my terriers ok anybody got any ideas ? Could it be bkennel cough

Could be kennel cough, could be a small obstruction, could be a physical fault, only way to find out is to see a good vet........

get a bottle of buttercup syrup try it with some did the job for my dog it might save you a few bob good luck

yes or barley husk at this time of year .....there is no cure for kennel cough I know a lad last week that was stung for over £ he was prescribed metacalm and Noroclav ...I dont know why ....astrong dose of garlic tablets ....trust me

Could be kennel cough, was it a hard run? After a long hard run if a dogs over exerted itself it could of damage its diaphragm which will cause coughing

Does he pant much mate my mate had a dog years ago was always panting used to cough a lot after a run he was a bit older than yours but turned out he had heart trouble had to have tablets and went to a pet home with his mum.dont want to worry you and it dont sound like the same from what u say .just thought id let u know hope the dogs ok probably a seed or obstruction or maybe just a cough but best to get it checked mate

Kennel cough is treatable , trouble is there are quite a few strains of it.

Desi Fagan, a very good running dog vet, once told me to give the dog Benylin.

Thanks all for the help i donk its heart or diaphragm problems as he hasnt been run that hard yet an my pals older dog doin exactly the same,think am gonna try the old benilyn n garlic tablets before the vets CHEERS ALL GREAT FORUM

Inan, I agree that the SYMPTOMS of kennel cough are treatable, I've always understood that it is not curable ? Vets will definately take you for a ride with what they prescribe. A retired vet I used to beat for on a shoot said just seperate the dog(s) with the cough, keep them warm and well hydrated, no excercise and it'll pass in a week to ten days. It will run like wildfire thru' kennells and is easy picked up at shows.

Only thing not meantioned so far is lungworm, it will cause a cough amongst other symptoms, milbemax worming tablets will do lungworm as well as tape and round, worm every three months with them to prevent but have to treat more regular if you suspect they got it.
