OK LADS N LASSES

i have a blac k dog hes 10 month old and since this hot weather started he seems to be taking the heat pretty hard , i mean yesterday i let him out the the run to go for a walk n after 2 minutes the poor lad looked like he was gonna fall over , and my brindle bitch was fine, is it just my black dog or do all dark dogs get affected the same , id appreciate feedback

yeah mate i know what you mean..ive got a dark brindle dog and a light brindle dog and the dark one suffers more than the light,even touching their coat you can feel a difference in temperature,my mates beddy cross is a light fawn colour and you can feel a major diffference..lots of water and shade where possible mate,and you do know that darker colours soak up more heat,,!

happy hunting

I have a red merle she cant take the heat, if we go out she has to stay on the lead or she is f... with in ten min, I have to say it is worrying me abit as I would like to start her road work to make her fit, but she could not take it in this heat, and we do have the summer to come as yet, So to get her fit for the winter is a worry,The only thing I can think off is going out later at night

In the hot spell last year I was convinced my collie grey bitch had heart problems. She was really knackered at the slightest activity. Come winter she could run all night . We sweat dogs can only pant. I guess if it's a hot day warm air on the tongue makes it difficult for the dog to get enough cool air to maintain correct body temperature. I guess coat colour can make some difference as we all know white reflects heat whereas black absorbs it.

Franks spot on :yes: Its worth noting that if you allow your dog to exercise in heat to the point where it overheats and starts to wobble, drag its feet or get the glazed eye look, you could actually be doing irreperable (sp) damage to the dog. Its always better to exercise them early mornings and late evenings, keep them out of the sun during the hottest part of the day :victory:

Feck walking dogs around in the heat... :blink:

Seen plenty of dogs in the Middle East,.Nomad curs and Pi-Dog types...

They generally sit around on their arses all day (just like me,.. :laugh: )...then,..same as most real predators,. when the sun goes down and it starts to get cooler,...they come alive and,..'go to work'.... ;)

All the best,...cheers,.CHALKWARREN... :drink::drink::drink:

But heat affecks all dogs the same
