scotty3968 0
yeah mate i know what you mean..ive got a dark brindle dog and a light brindle dog and the dark one suffers more than the light, even touching their coat you can feel a difference in temperature,my mates beddy cross is a light fawn colour and you can feel a major diffference..lots of water and shade where possible mate, and you do know that darker colours soak up more heat,,! happy hunting scotty Edited June 10, 2007 by scotty3968 Quote Link to post
NIGHTSHADOW 3
I have a red merle she cant take the heat, if we go out she has to stay on the lead or she is f... with in ten min, I have to say it is worrying me abit as I would like to start her road work to make her fit, but she could not take it in this heat, and we do have the summer to come as yet, So to get her fit for the winter is a worry,The only thing I can think off is going out later at night Quote Link to post
tyson 1
when its hot like yesterday , my dog could hardly walk , he actually looked like he was really lame on his back end , and looks ready to keel over well roll on winter is all i can say Quote Link to post
Guest bezza
In the hot spell last year I was convinced my collie grey bitch had heart problems. She was really knackered at the slightest activity. Come winter she could run all night . We sweat dogs can only pant. I guess if it's a hot day warm air on the tongue makes it difficult for the dog to get enough cool air to maintain correct body temperature. I guess coat colour can make some difference as we all know white reflects heat whereas black absorbs it. Quote Link to post
MikeTheDog 153
Even a dog in peak condition this time of year will feel the heat Quote Link to post
Guest Frank
Keep them wet, lotsa water and shade. Excersise, only in the evening, dusk is good this time of year, as well as dawn. Frank. Quote Link to post
Guest SJM
Franks spot on Its worth noting that if you allow your dog to exercise in heat to the point where it overheats and starts to wobble, drag its feet or get the glazed eye look, you could actually be doing irreperable (sp) damage to the dog. Its always better to exercise them early mornings and late evenings, keep them out of the sun during the hottest part of the day Quote Link to post
swamper 11
got a black one and a fawn one .........blackun no probs at all deals with it all day if she want fawn one...as soon as it stops snowing she starts panting i think its all down to the indervidual dog imo Quote Link to post
Phil Lloyd 10,738
Feck walking dogs around in the heat... Seen plenty of dogs in the Middle East,.Nomad curs and Pi-Dog types... They generally sit around on their arses all day (just like me,.. )...then,..same as most real predators,. when the sun goes down and it starts to get cooler,...they come alive and,..'go to work'.... All the best,...cheers,.CHALKWARREN... Edited June 11, 2007 by CHALKWARREN Quote Link to post
Cheshire Poacher 6
I have a black dog the heat knocks him for six my pied bitch same but know were near as bad my dad as a 9 monthold black pup as you would think mad as a march hare but heat calams him rigth down. lies in the kitchen on the slat floor i close the blinds to stop the sun geting thro to keep him cool but if you do what frank surggest you wont go far wrong but personaly i think sun affecks black dogs more but you would not keep any dogs in the sun anyway. But heat affecks all dogs the same Quote Link to post
