i think its very important to have a terrier fit before it starts a season.....................you can tell the ones who have not been exercised and left in the kennel.............

some breeds maybe naturally fit than other breeds...............but i think fittness can save a dog than one whats not fit suffering difficulties in an earth...............

i think having a fit terrier can make them more reliable...............in getting a mark, obviously still having the energy to deal with its quarry after alot of pushing/digging through the tubes........

havent seen much but seen unfit dogs in front of quarry so tierd they could hardly bay.......

also there limited to work .............but a fit dog you can work more regular...............

Just keep them fit & fed proper ALL year round ! no need for pre -season conditioning .. then their always in condition..

Plenty walks ,running around, tuggin'& playin'.Just get out with them :)

.Amazes me the amount of Folk that have KENNEL bound dogs most of the Week.then expect them to excell at the wkend

Worse are ones Cooped up Indoors in a box for 8 hrs ,then into Kennel for another 5..for fresh air ..and a wee run at the Wkend. on the braes :icon_redface:

My dogs are fit all year round. They are out hunting something every day . Throughout spring and summer on dykes , river banks for rats etc round farm buildings or just in woods chasing squirrels. Both Lurchers and terriers . Probably fitter on the summer with long days, light nights. Even local playing fields with a few rabbits round the edges. Not full blown hunting but something just to open up their lungs. There is no excuse for a dog to be out of shape no matter what time of year especially the terriiers
