No such thing has someone owning a line off dogs.You can take credit for breeding a good litter or good pup but thats it.Because at the end day we all had to get a dog off someone to start off imo

not if you done the origanal cross, (pure x pure) then surely you have started a new lurcher line if you keep going and line breed

I own a couple of deerhoundy things and a couple of bully dogs. Both of which come from a LINE. I take no credit for breeding said mutts, I just work the socks off them. These dogs could and probably should accurately be called a line of dogs, as they are line bred for decades, with not much in the way of unrelated stock being outcrossed to over they years. Ive always been fortunate enough to have been associated with these people and between us all, a decent group of lads, we keep and work this line bred stock. Nothing is sold, extras are culled, and any that show faults or failings are culled. Weather its right or wrong to call an inbred family of dogs that goes back a way a line or not I dont know, but we do call it a line, and we always will.

Where did you get the pure for pure to start off with???????

both pures could come from where ever you want....what im saying if you cross a pure with a pure you have created a differant type to either parents so that now can be classed as your start line imo and be called your own if you like lol

The way I see it is, it cant be a "line/family" if it isnt linebred.

If you cross two unrelated dogs, you have made an outcross.

If you breed two related dogs that you got from someone else, its your cross, based on their "line/family". Most the credit should go to them for providing the base, most the blame should go to you for poor selection.

I think you have to have at least bred both sire and dam, and they must be related, before you can start calling them "your line"

When it works its line-breeding, when it goes wrong its in-breeding. Breed close and cull hard. And when culls outnumber workers its time for an outcross. JMO

Doc; I'd suppose when people say they want a dog from "your line", thats when the dogs you've bred and proved themselves for long enough on the quarry they were bred for, that it just may be "your line " !!

Don't understand all the hype about the line's aslong as the parent's are good hard working grafters im happy to have the pup out of them, honestly dont care if the grandparents grandparents where "the dogs bollox" to me it's waht you put into the mutt.

its all about lines and blood,the men at the top of there game all have one thing in common,a good line of dog behind them,and the ones that stay at the top producing the goods for years have good stockmanship in there favour. all the work in the world wont make a dog if its not bred in there in the first place,you cant polish a turd as the old saying goes.

Its the two dogs that start the line I find hard to beat.A line is only as good as the dogs that come off it.One or two mite meet the grade of a litter.Thats the ones you put your time into.And new blood is a must.

Yes, I would consider that a continuation of the "line" since you bred back to the originals.
