Mick C. 229
Good biit of kit . Saves you digging to deep if your off dig a bit. Also comes in for beating cover back, and as already said for making pilot holes for net and longnet pegs when the ground is hard. Mine is an old manhole lifting key. An old poker could soon be modified if you know anyone whos handy with a welder. Need to paint mine with some bright paint as they are an easy thing to loose. Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,826
I made a stainless probe a few years ago and have lost it so i made a one from 8mm steel, welded a little btit of flatbar on the bottom and shaped it with the grinder as has been said you can feel it in the pipe. Going to knock one up from 6mm stainless when i get time. Quote Link to post

Sirius 1,391
Good kit, I have a 4ft one which is useful always in the truck. But my most useful one is a foot long and great for when in a dig and trying to find a tube in the walls of the dig. Quote Link to post
bobcullen79 1,495
I used a road pin from wickes, about £2.50. Trim either end off, then take another 10" off, and weld together. The road pins from wickes are about 8/9mm and have a smooth finish, compared to the heavy duty ones used for proper ground works. Quote Link to post
BS40liam 203
I may seem daft for not knowing but what is the purpose of a T-bar? Quote Link to post

lifelong cumbrian 1,826
I may seem daft for not knowing but what is the purpose of a T-bar? You use it for proding around in the hole you are digging to find the pipe (hole). sometimes you can be slightly off with your location, use can also use the locator to scan around the sides of the hole if you are off course and if you think the hole is to the side you could try the probe rather than digging a great big hole. They are usefull were there are roots and things to find the hole and then you are sure it is there before you start trying to digg roots out etc. This is what i use mine for anyway. As said if you have a little bit of metal disc or something welded on near the end you can feel the probe breaking into the pipe easeier. Quote Link to post
BS40liam 203
Makes sense, cheers for that Quote Link to post
The one 8,469
if you can use a locator to you really need a t-bar ? couple of times ive had a problem it was one tunnel on top of another one so i wasn't deep enough but we seem to carry a load of kit as it is Quote Link to post
