I've never seen or heard of a furball in a ferret or ferret laxatives for that matter. I would go to the vets with her mate personally. But i'm sure somebody with more experience will be along shortly and give you some good advice. atb

As ive said in your last thread. You can get malt paste from pets at home, its 3 quid. Thats for hairballs and they love it as a treat!

Ive never realy heard or experienced a ferret with a hairball, it can happen but quite rare.

You said in your last thread your keeping her on sawdust? if sawdust, get rid! shavings are ok, do you mean them?

Just use blankets for her bedding.

yes shavings from pets at home,i have never had a ferret with a fur ball either,,but with her coughing like she is,i just wanted to rule it out,,could be flu,,i hope its not e.c.e or ulsers, shes the quiet one of the two jills and iv fallen for her,i get too atached too quick,,shes alright most of the day,,when i bring her in thats been 4-5 times today shes playing,+ bouncing around, she ate some chicken just now and had a drink,,i dont feed them on winalot anymore i feed them alpha ferret feast biscuits, and maybe once or twice a week will give them abit of chicken or liver,+ the odd egg york as a treat, have anyone had a ferret with a cough before? or been sick?

Malt paste is high sugar, not good for ferts, same as lactose in milk. Ferrets Formula will do the same job as malt paste without filling your ferret with sugar. People say Ferretone is useful, but filled with sugar same as malt paste.

Edited to say, ferts can cough and be sick for no significant reason. If occasional vomiting/coughing persists for 3 days plus, then needs seen by a vet. If vomiting/coughing often in a short space of time, then vet visit asap. Atb

Had ferrets myself for a number of years and my friend has for the past 30 years and he has never heard of this ither! best bet is take it the vet or phone up and ask to talk to the nurse and explain in detail, am sure they will help. better to be safe! ferret is just as important as a dog  ATB mate keep us posted :bye:

Never had ferrets with fur balls sometimes they gag a bit on fresh shavings etc when they push themselfs through it playing also had a jill once that kept coughing for a couple of days on closer examination it turned out to be a small pigeon feather stuck at the back of her throat on the roof of her mouth this was removed and she was fine have you looked in her mouth mate to see there is anything there ? if not take her to the vet good luck
